About me

Reaching out can be hard and life’s difficulties are rarely easily understood.

You might be feeling overwhelmed, confused, experiencing difficulties in relationships, feeling depressed and/or anxious, or just not feeling 'right'.

I am an experienced therapist, BACP member and am currently expanding my professional studies on an MSC in Existential Psychotherapy at Middlesex University.

I encourage a collaborative approach where we talk about ‘you’, your experiences, things that feel stressful, beliefs about yourself and what it’s like to be ‘you’ in your world.
In dialogue, we can contextualise these thoughts and feelings and notice things that might be hiding in the periphery of your awareness.
We can look out how beliefs inform our behaviour and how these behaviours might be keeping you stuck in cycles.
I encouragement a movement away from judgement and blame towards a greater self-awareness and clarity where choices become clear.

A sense of low self-worth, shame and a critical inner-voice can hold us back from understanding our concerns. In therapy, we listen to these parts and find out what they need and what they're afraid of.

Whatever your situation, it can be helpful to talk things through with someone neutral and objective in a safe and confidential space. I aim to support clients with a down-to-earth approach in opening up their world to more possibility and different perspectives. My approach is relational therefore I reflect back what you bring and believe in a relationship where the client has autonomy in the process of therapy.

Possible benefits of therapy:

  • clarity
  • a new perspective
  • letting go of shame and self-judgement
  • becoming at ease with anxiety
  • developing skills to improve relationships
  • embracing choice
  • a greater sense of resilience and trust in oneself
  • a deeper understanding of past experience and future possibility

It can be daunting looking for the right therapist!

As such, I encourage and offer a free 30 minute phone call where we can chat through your concerns and you can find out a bit about my approach. If it feels like we'd work well together, we can then move forward and book a session. I will always be transparent about my availability and keep a waiting list.

My approach

As an integrative therapist, I apply my knowledge of a range of theoretical approaches to suit the individual relationship. My work is chiefly influenced by humanistic and existential thinking. I have a particular interest in 'inner-child' work and shame. I hold a strong and supportive space where you can feel safe with difficult emotions.

I encourage clients to bring themselves and to know that any aspect of their self, history, or experience - even the bits they don’t like - are welcome.

Training, qualifications & experience

Trained and qualified in Integrative Therapeutic Counselling (Level 4 Dip - CPCAB).  I am presently undergoing further professional studies, studying for a Masters in Existential Psychotherapy Studies (NSPC / Middlesex University).

This approach, with its attention to meaning, lived experience and values and beliefs, draws on philosophical ideas – addressing the often deep-rooted anxieties of existence and life’s limitations.

Previous to working as a therapist, I had a long career in pastoral care, music and education, graduating with a BA Hons in Music from The University of Bristol and a PGCE in Secondary Education from Bath Spa University.

I have worked for the past two years as a counsellor at a large mental health charity in Swindon.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
