About me

I am a therapeutic Social Worker and a Counsellor based in Oban, Scotland. I am a great lover of nature, wild swimming and music.

I am committed to openness, personal growth and awareness. I am confident in my ability to hold space for others to explore life's inevitable challenges.  Life is complex and really hard at times,  and none of us are free from challenges. With this in mind I work hard to listen deeply, stay curious and provide a non judgemental and fiercely compassionate attitude towards myself and my clients.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have worked in a supportive capacity for more than 20 years, with many individuals and groups facing a wide range of issues, including, family and relationship issues, addiction, parenting challenges, trauma, grief and loss, health problems and poor mental health, in all it's varied guises.

I have a BA Hons in Social Work and a PG Diploma in Person Centred Counselling. I am currently completing a PG Certificate in Relationship Counselling.

I have completed training in other therapeutic approaches and I love to read and learn about new ways to improve my own life and help others do the same. I am never short of books to recommend!

I tend to work in an integrative way, listening deeply to the needs of my clients and co-creating an approach that fits for each individual. I am creative and enjoy working with values,  mindfulness and metaphor.

I like to bring my vitality and sense of humour into my counselling work too, where appropriate.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I have a lot of experience working with women on developing self compassion, boundaries, understanding perfectionism and increasing self worth and self love. I love this work, and as a 42 year old woman, I am bringing my own experience of these challenges.

*I acknowledge my privilege and I take responsibility for consistently considering equality and intersectionality in my practice.

Further information

I am focused on building genuine, warm relationships with my clients. I believe this to be the most important part of effective therapy and positive change.

I am really interested in supporting my clients to develop self compassion and good personal boundaries, these feel like really important elements of developing a healthy internal life.

Mindfulness and meditation are also areas of interest that offer great personal benefit and that also align with my counselling approach.
