My approach to Sessions
To begin with we will get a picture of where you are and where you want to get to. We will revisit this as and when needed to make sure that the work we do remains relevant to you.
Empathy, acceptance, and unconditional regard are the corner stone of my therapeutic approach. These qualities help you to connect with yourself, which in turn helps create the energy that you will need to delve deeper and promote change.
I focus on the body/mind/ feelings connection. Bringing attention to the non verbal queues to help identify feelings thoughts and emotions that have become frozen following past adverse experiences. As they are safely released you will be supported to embrace the strength and energy that were curtailed up until now.
I'm not the kind of therapist who sits quietly, nodding with a blank stare. If needed and appropriate, I share my views with empathy and compassion. I balance this with attentive silence and space to give you a chance to reflect and draw your own conclusions.
Whether you're in need of guidance or would like to be challenged, I can support you. Together we will flesh out an approach that caters specifically for your needs.
We'll work together. Each week, you'll have a dedicated space to delve into your experiences, thoughts and behaviours.
You may sense there is lots ‘unresolved’ within you that you’re ready to look at. Contact me to work on unresolved issues and move forward with life.
TOOLKIT:
I'm influenced by a pluralistic approach. Over many years of practice I have learned to distill the most effective frameworks and techniques to address the specific needs of each individual client. In sessions I may use one or more approach and combine aspects of it depending on what is needed in the moment.
Person-Centred: All the answers are within you. I act as a facilitator, holding space with an encouraging stance to help you find your own answers.
Parts Work: This helps you explore the various aspects of your personality and emotions, supporting you to regulate them much like a conductor guides an orchestra, or a director directs a cast.
Body Work: By harnessing the incredible power of non verbal cues, you can learn to express and regulate feelings that are keeping you stuck and release the effects of adverse experiences
Mindfulness: I integrate mindfulness orientated techniques to help you cultivate awareness, regulate your nervous system and live in the present.
Compassion Focused: I draw on your inner observer and wisdom to help you develop a stance of unconditional acceptance of yourself which helps free up energy trapped by criticism inside you.
Gestalt: A powerful, experiential approach that focuses on your all-round experience in the here and now. It helps you to connect with your needs by bringing them into the foreground and help you find closure with any unfinished business. This releases any energy that would be trapped ruminating over the past and help you feel more present and grounded in daily life.
Dreams exploration: Working with dreams helps you by-pass the rational and conscious mind. You can then delve deeper into yourself and free up energy that is sitting dormant in your unconscious either because untapped or because trapped by the impact of adverse experiences.
Intimate Partner Therapy Working with Couples: I work with opposite and same sex couples in sex positive and psychosexual informed way. Changing negative communication patterns. Exploring and improving bonding patterns between partners. Using systemic frameworks to help you develop your relationship or part safely depending on circumstances.
Family Constellations: Using family constellations framework to bring insight and healing through the understanding of family dynamics and generational trauma
Visualisations/ Guided Imagery: Harnessing the power of your imagination you can discover new parts of your personality, foster a deeper connection with yourself and access symbols and images that can help you tap your potential.
Single Session Therapy: Starting from the assumption that one session might be enough with dive into a 90mins highly focused meeting to work on one specific issue or an aspect of a larger issue.
Eating Disorder Treatment Skills: Using a nutrition and physiology informed approach combined with practical tools and an explorative psychodynamic approach. Together we work to tackle the factors that keep you trapped in your eating disorder or disorder eating patterns.
CBT: Your thoughts have the ability to influence how you are feeling. Together we use a range of cognitive techniques to explore and change your thinking patterns. Where appropriate and requested we can blend this with other approaches to work at a deeper level.
Benefits of Working Together
Past clients have shared that they experienced higher levels of self-confidence and a deeper sense of self-compassion. Others have felt an improvement in self regulation and an ability to better manager their eating problems. There’s been some noticeable personal growth, marked by an improved ability to chose how to respond to situations and assert themselves in relationships combined with a decrease in overthinking and an enhanced awareness of themselves.
Through our collaborative efforts, individuals and partners have learned to lean into their experiences, effectively processing and understanding what unfolds. The work equipped them with enhanced self-regulation skills, fostering a more open and connected relationship with themselves and others based on choice around behaviours..
As a result, clients frequently expressed new found clarity and direction, confidently moving forward in their lives.

Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
