About me

Welcome, my name is Fiona. I would assume that if you are scrolling through these pages you are probably at a point in your life where you are finding it difficult to cope, you're stressed, sad and not sure how to make changes. Almost all of us face these feelings at some stage in life. Whether it's through worries such as health, relationships or work, bereavement, struggling to cope with change or you are simply feeling alone, I can help.

Reaching out and admitting that you are finding your situation tough is the first step along the journey towards making those changes, improving your emotional wellbeing, understanding yourself and your behaviours better and raising your self-esteem. From my own experience of therapy, I know how hard that first step can be, but I also know how rich the benefits can be from taking it. I know how making that first step helped me to find hidden strengths and inner resilience, enabling me to better cope with and respond to changing circumstances.

I am here, and ready to walk alongside you in that journey. I will keep you at the very heart of every session, ensuring that you feel free to say whatever is on your mind without judgement or criticism. I invite you to think of this as your time and space to bring whatever you need. Together, in this unique space we can explore what brings you to therapy, the things that may be holding you back, and that can provide insight into a way forward which allows you to live more fully, speak your own truth, create greater connection in your life, whatever that might be for you.

How can counselling help you?

Counselling is the best form of self care. The counselling relationship is unlike any other relationship you will experience and within it you can expect to feel heard, accepted and understood.

People often report that after counselling they feel calmer, less stressed, sleep better, laugh more,  feel more relaxed,  are kinder to themselves and feel able to meet their own needs. In addition to feeling better they often report that they are able to communicate better within their relationships, establish positive boundaries and say "no" when needed, make positive choices and stand up for themselves better.

What to expect in our first session:

The first session can feel quite daunting, but by being warm and welcoming, I will do everything I can to make you feel comfortable as quickly as possible. The first session will allow us to get to know each other and for you to tell me what has brought you to counselling. You may know what you want to achieve through therapy, in which case we can talk through your goals and expectations. However, a lot of people do not know what they want to achieve and that is ok too. The first session will take up to 50 minutes and will allow us to talk about confidentiality and go through a few bits of paperwork together.

Training, qualifications & experience

Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling

My particular area of interest is working with those who feel unworthy, disconnected and unfulfilled, who maybe view themselves or their behaviour really harshly and feel that there is something intrinsically wrong with them.

I have experience of working with a wide range of issues especially with a focus on multiple aspects of loss having been counselling at our local hospice for numerous years.

I have recently undergone additional training focussing on trauma, including Trauma, the Brain and Recovery, and have sought to read and develop myself extensively within this area.

I also like to include, where we both feel appropriate, to draw on some creative techniques to facilitate exploration, where words might be difficult to find.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Key details

DBS check

In England and Wales, the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS, formerly known as CRB) carry out criminal records checks for individuals working with vulnerable groups, such as children. To find out more, visit gov.uk , or contact this professional directly

Unfortunately, my room is on the first floor and sadly there is no life access. If this prevents you from considering face-to-face therapy with myself, I am very happy to offer telephone sessions.
