About me

“Scars remind us where we’ve been. They don’t have to dictate where we’re going.” (David Rossi).

If you've ever wondered whether you'd benefit from therapy, or feel nervous about taking that first step, it's important to know that you are not alone.
I am successful in meeting my clients’ many needs through genuine and non-judgemental relating.

Sometime we may feel helpless, but at the same time we may feel that the process of counselling could do us some good, we have hope. I believe each of us has the capacity to love and be loved, to have a zest for life.

Sometimes the battles in our lives feel overwhelming and impossible to share with others. Such feelings can be triggered by a wide range of issues including transition in your life or career, anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, abuse (recent or historic), self-esteem and low confidence, relationship issues, or health anxiety. Together we can work through these difficult feelings.

I believe trust is central in building a successful therapeutic relationship so I provide a warm, empathic, non-judgemental space where we can explore, in complete confidentiality, whatever has led you to counselling. Listening, companion, kindness and safety will help you to find your voice. I offer a mindful attitude and foster a hope for the future.

Feelings can hurt, but what often hurts more are the things we do to avoid the feeling in the first place. My aim for our work together would be to provide comfort, a deeper understanding of yourself and a sense of what options you have for positive change in your life.

Training, qualifications & experience

I began my training in counselling while working at the mental health charity, Mind. Throughout my training and client work, I have developed a very intuitive therapeutic style and I am successful in meeting my clients’ many needs through genuine and non-judgemental relating. Listening, compassion, kindness and a place of safety help my clients to find their voice. I offer and model what the client can potentially offer themselves – a mindful attitude of self-love and self-forgiveness.

I have BSc(Hons) at Open University in Psychology, a Certificate in Person-Centred Counselling at Birkbeck University of London and a Diploma (CPCAB) in Integrative Counselling at Counselling and Psychotherapy Training Academy, trainings in DID, PTSD, child sexual abuse, and mental health.

I am an experienced BACP - registered Counsellor. I abide by their code of ethics, have regular clinical supervisions and undergo continual professional development. I have 15 years experience within the charity sector at Mind (including 4 years at Psychotherapy and Counselling Service at Mind), and 4 years at Aurora Foundation Counselling Service for people who have been abused in childhood.

Recently I have been successfully running 12 weeks Psycho-educational Recovery from Trauma groups. The goals are to help the participants to stabilise their internal and external world in the group setting and foster a sense of hope for the future.

As an Integrative Relational practitioner, I can choose from a range of psychological theories allowing us to tailor the best approach for you. I feel that the relationship we create together is absolutely integral to the success of the work.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information

I know that seeking support can feel very daunting, so I take care at the initial session to explain the counselling process, explore your expectations, and needs, get a sense of whether I might be the right person for you and to give time to consider whether we can work together.  After this we can commit to a further 6-12 sessions if you have a specific issue you want to work on or a longer open-ended contract for working through more, deeper issues.

I can offer a free 20 minutes telephone consultation. My sessions are 50minutes long and my rate is £60 for 1-2-1 therapy, £90 for couples.

Concessions at therapist’s discretion, I firmly believe that therapy should be readily available for all.

I offer sessions on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays.

Staying at home, if you live on your own or not, can feel lonely. We can reflect and practice self-compassion.

Sometimes we can be so tense that we do not even remember what being relaxed feels like. We can try some different relaxation techniques. Relaxing and focusing on the present can help lighten negative feelings.

Sometimes you may need to learn how to navigate your life challenges - I am here to help you.
