About me

Hello – my name’s Emma.  It can feel daunting looking for the right counsellor but we all deserve to live our best life and I’m passionate about you achieving your end goal.  I’ll listen to you with understanding and kindness – which is sometimes hard to give to ourselves - in confidence and with no judgement. You can tell me as much – or as little – as you like at your pace, and together, we can work through whatever it is that’s troubling you and find the right resolution for you.

As an experienced and professional counsellor (I’m a member of the BACP, an accredited member with the NCPS and have a Certificate in Couples Therapy) I provide affordable counselling both for INDIVIDUALS: helping with anxiety, depression, work-related stress, menopause, loss and grief and with COUPLES: helping improve communication and navigating a way to a brighter future. Your mental health is important to me, so that your life can become more fulfilled.

Grief is not a weakness or a disorder, it’s a product of being alive and having feelings.  There is no one-way of dealing with grief, but without question leaving it unspoken can allow the tentacles of unhappiness to spread to all parts of your life, affecting your well-being, relationships, work and future.

Loss - I have a wealth of experience particularly in the area of loss and bereavement. Loss can take many forms and all too frequently we don’t realise that a loss of opportunity, time, self-worth can be as detrimental to mental well-being as the loss of a loved one, your marriage, your job.

Whether you call it couples therapy, marriage counselling or relationship counselling, by seeking help you’re inviting me into the life of your relationship, to help you and your partner communicate well, disagree productively, get your needs met and address difficult issues.

Understandably there’s a good deal of apprehension but what’s critical is having a couple’s therapist who will get to know your relationship.

Just as every individual needs something different, so does every couple. Relationships need work, and with my help as a skilled counsellor all issues can be addressed.  Ultimately how you choose to move forward is up to you but rather than making rash decisions I can ensure decisions are made with compassion and careful thought.

Whatever you want from therapy, the relationship between us is key. I offer a FREE initial 15-minute telephone consultation, to allow us to understand what you'd like to get out of counselling and for me to understand your needs.

If you'd like to find out more or book an initial appointment, please get in touch or find me at emandu.co.uk.

Currently, I live in Hampshire on the borders of Surrey and Berkshire and work with clients via telephone, on-line and face-to-face or a combination of all three.

Training, qualifications & experience

As an integrative counsellor I tailor sessions to meet your individual needs. Working humanistically I recognise you to be the expert on yourself supporting and facilitating as together we investigate the choices and changes available to you to improve your well-being.

I have years of experience working for a cancer charity working with both patients and their loved ones, both with adults and young people.  I have also worked with young people at a university and with groups of people supporting them with their anxiety and depression.

For many years I worked in the Corporate Financial sector, first in London and then in Bermuda and Canada before retraining to become an Integrative therapist.   This varied career path has given me a comprehensive and personal insight into loss and life's pressures.

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
