About me

If you find yourself on this page, you are probably trying to work out what you are looking for a in a sea of counsellors - eek.  I am open, approachable, supportive and relatively 'normal' - whatever that means, and I am on a mission to help people understand themselves, work through their 'stuff' and go on to live happier and more fulfilled lives, enriching their relationships as they go along...THE DREAM!

On an official note, I am a member of the BACP, adhering to its code of ethics.  I work collaboratively with my clients – we can talk about your goals and expectations of therapy and your life, and explore painful past experiences and patterns that may be holding you back.  My areas of interest and specialism include anxiety, depression, bereavement, loneliness, low self esteem, family conflict and relationship issues.

I work in private practice and also previously worked in a specialised bereavement agency where I undertook additional training around loss - not only of loved ones, but also sense of self, identity and for people that feel they have lost their way.  I recently undertook some couples training too.

I can offer kinship, safety and support for you while you explore your thoughts and feelings. This valuable space can help you to trust in yourself and empower you. Clients find they can work out what they need and then communicate this to others, outside of the therapy setting.

It is a huge privilege to listen to people's stories, to join them on their journey for a while and to help them find clarity for and within themselves.

You may feel anxious about taking the first step to get in touch - that's totally normal!  Remember when choosing a therapist that you have to feel that you can work with them - it's a mutual process.  If you have a chat with someone and don't feel at ease, keep looking!

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a member of the BACP (Register # 394657) and trained in an integrative approach using person-centred and psychodynamic approaches.  I completed my CPCAB Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling with London Southbank University.

Working integratively means that we can explore your experience of your life in the present, and also consider how your past influences your thoughts, feelings and behaviours.

I have worked in both open ended practice and time limited therapy,  and I am a specialist in grief work, undertaking specific training for this in Autumn 2021. In January 2023 I will embark on a relational certificate to enable me to work with couples.

I have proven experience of helping a whole range of clients to feel more empowered, balanced and supported.

There’s lots of research that shows that regardless of the specific theory behind the work – the relationship between the client and the therapist is the magic ingredient. Finding a connection between us in the therapeutic space, is what can make all the difference.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
