About me

If you are struggling, I am here to listen and to navigate these waters with you.

Starting therapy can be a daunting experience, especially if you are a member of a marginalised group. It is very important to me that my therapy is based within an understanding of intersectionality and how systemic prejudice affects individuals in a complex way, often compounding the trauma you might face. You can feel reassured that your space with me is a place where you can express yourself freely.

In my practise I endeavour to create a safe space where I enter into your unique sphere of existence. I will frequently use metaphor as a vehicle to explore your innermost feelings and lay them out between us, enabling us both to make sense of them. I use a holistic approach to explore you as your entire being, the bigger picture of you, rather than a clinical deconstruction that reduces you to diagnosis or acronyms.

I work with all clients from all walks of life, backgrounds, professions, and presenting issues, and I have years of experience in working with trauma and sexual violence. I recognise the complexity of trauma and the impact it can have on someone’s life, that it is often multi-faceted, a complicated tapestry with no simple beginning or end. This journey may take us through your relationships (past and present), as well as deconstructing harmful myths and narratives that may have disempowered you.

Our sessions will be client-led, guided by you, and we will work at your pace. I incorporate a number of different approaches into my work in order to tailor it personally to you and what you feel you need.

I welcome clients with neurodiverse traits to please contact me to discuss how best we can navigate therapy together. Just because you may be non-verbal or communicate in an “unconventional” manner does not mean your emotional experiences are less valid or less worthy of being authentically explored.

My specialisms also include working with LGBTQ+ and TBI clients on all issues, including exploring gender dysphoria, discrimination, and systemic abuse.

You deserve to heal, no matter what.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have two years of experience working with clients who have gone through sexual violence and other trauma, delivering empowerment based therapeutic change for them.

I hold a Level 4 qualification in counselling and can use my skills from a variety of approaches to whatever may help you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

Therapy can be many different things to many different people. There is no one size fits all and no journey is the same for everyone. For some, it might be a transformative experience, learning about oneself and navigating hidden, uncomfortable corners and confronting those shadows. For others, it may be one of remembrance, a space to hold grief, to embrace our past selves, and release that pain. Along the journey there can be moments of sorrow, but also some of shared joy and laughter.

If you have never had therapy before, it can feel strange to speak to a stranger about your feelings, but I can reassure you that with time you will look in wonder at your courage and honesty, even if it takes a little while to get there.

If you would like to discuss further what therapy might do for you, or if I am the right person to facilitate what you need, then please reach out to contact me. I also offer discounted intro sessions where we can explore this further.
