About me

Welcome my name is Libby, I’m glad you stopped by, how can I help?

Taking that first step is often difficult, whether you are in the midst of a crisis, feeling overwhelmed, anxious or low, choosing a therapist can be daunting, and is an important part of your unique therapeutic journey.

Life adversities or experiences impact each one of us differently, and we each hold our own unique perspective.  This perspective, the assumptions and beliefs we hold about ourselves influence our reactions and how we view ourselves.  I offer a trauma informed practice, and have worked alongside many who have presented with various difficulties,  is there a specific issue you would like to explore?

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

I am a BACP accredited Psychotherapist and Counsellor with over 18 year’s experience, and provide both short-term and long-term therapy.  I offer an integrative approach which is underpinned by my original training of Person Centred.  I believe that no one size fits all, and therefore working together with you to find the 'right fit' is really important.

At our first appointment we will explore what brings you to therapy? why now? what you would like to achieve? and if we can work together. Building a trusting and collaborative relationship is key to therapeutic growth.  My commitment is to provide you with a safe, confidential space to explore any difficulties you might be experiencing without judgement.

I offer traditional room appointments in Lerwick on Fridays 9am to 5pm.  For those that are seeking a therapy experience in nature I offer an experiential form of therapy (Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy) which takes place in the ponies natural environment.  If ponies are not for you, have you considered Walk and Talk therapy?

Telephone, and online (WhatsApp/Zoom/Skype) appointments Monday to Thursday 9am to 6.30pm.  Saturday and Sunday appointments also available.
