About me

Hello, I am Despina. I am an integrative CBT therapist based in the south side of Glasgow and I am available for both face-to-face and online sessions.

People who know me best would describe me as a warm and compassionate individual that makes people feel safe.  As a therapist, my main focus is to create a supportive, therapeutic environment where you will experience respect, acceptance and empowerment.

Training, qualifications & experience

My educational background includes a bachelor’s degree (BA) in Psychology, a master’s degree (MSc) in Research Methods in Psychology as well as a diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Groupwork.

Although the main focus of my training is in CBT, I would describe my approach as one that places importance on  meeting the individual needs of my clients. Each individual is different and unique so some clients may respond better to the structured nature and tools of CBT whilst others may benefit more from Compassion Focused therapy, Inner Child Healing or Trauma Focused therapy.

My intent is to offer a safe and confidential space, where you can freely explore aspects of your life that have been causing you discomfort, without feeling judged. I am here to accept you for who you are and give you an opportunity to be heard, to be seen and to heal.

Along with my psychology training, I have extensive experience in the business/ start-up sector with involvement in areas such as Recruitment, Sales, Business Development and Customer Relationships. As a result, I have a great understanding of the challenges of the corporate industry as well as the impact this might have on our every day life and interpersonal relationships.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
