About me

Hello, I’m Dee, a BACP-registered counsellor/psychotherapist working with clients in-person (in Cardiff) and online (throughout the UK and beyond).

What I can offer:

You may be really struggling with something that's happened to you (in the past or recently), or perhaps you're feeling stuck and have reached a point where you feel that something needs to change. Through exploring your thoughts, feelings and experiences with a professional who's dedicated to listening sensitively and without judgment, counselling can really help to shift things, so that you can start living with more freedom and fulfillment.

I will listen and respond to you with kindness, patience and respect. You may want to discuss and make sense of your past, or you may choose to focus only on the present or the future: I work with clients at their pace and only on the issues they want to address. Trained and experienced in working with trauma, my priority is to ensure that therapy is and feels safe and empowering. Whether directly processing painful memories or developing healthier ways of coping, counselling can help you to heal and free yourself from what has happened to you.

Often, we seek therapy when some of our longstanding ways of thinking, feeling, behaving or relating (which may have served us well or helped us cope in the past) seem to be causing us problems. If this is the case, I can help you to reflect on and find ways to adjust or dismantle these patterns.

I usually see clients weekly or fortnightly, depending on their wishes. Sometimes just a few sessions are enough for meaningful changes to take place, but I also work long-term with clients who feel they benefit from more in-depth psychotherapy.

Getting in touch:

Finding a good ‘fit’ with a therapist can be challenging in itself, and I know that making a first approach can feel daunting. If you’d like to talk with me with no commitment before booking a session, drop me an email and we can arrange a free initial phone call or video call.

A bit about me:

My background is in academia, but my passion is in psychotherapy’s transformative potential. I qualified as a Relational Integrative counsellor/psychotherapist, which means my approach draws on a variety of therapy traditions and adapts to individual clients, with a focus on how we relate to one another (and to ourselves).

As well as my core Postgraduate Diploma training, I’ve completed accredited training in working safely with trauma (particularly sexual violence and sexual abuse).

I'm also trained and very experienced in counselling online. This method can be very effective and has many advantages for clients who favour this way of working.

While psychotherapy typically focuses on what is happening internally and in our immediate relationships, I’m sensitive to how larger forces (such as inequality and oppression) shape our lives, and am keen to explore these with clients who wish to do so.

Training, qualifications & experience

Accredited and certified training includes:

  • Postgraduate Diploma in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy (Level 7) (University of South Wales)
  • Certificate in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy (University of South Wales)
  • Working in Sexual Violence Settings (Level 3) (New Pathways/Agored Cymru)
  • Working With and Facilitating Groups (Tavistock Centre)
  • BACP Competences for Telephone and E-Counselling (Serenity Counselling)

Alongside my private practice, I work with clients from a diverse range of backgrounds and on a wide variety of issues at Community Care & Wellbeing Service, and I volunteer at New Pathways, focusing on trauma recovery.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
