About me

Hi, my name is David and I offer you a warm and sincere welcome. I have many years experience of working in the mental health sector, working with clients presenting a range of issues, including anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, abuse, bereavement and loss, identity/gender, childhood trauma, and family/relationship difficulties.

Sometimes we find ourselves facing issues that can simply overwhelm us, or too difficult to tell the people around us. This could manifest into having some very dark thoughts, loneliness or debilitating low self-worth. I personally have experienced some of these issues in the past, so can empathise with many client's emotions and thought processes when they are having to face their own dark times.  A sad statement that I often hear is clients stating that "I will always feel like this", or "this is just how I am". These statements are not only a false but they are so damaging for our mental health and are limiting us moving forward to become our true selves.

Thankfully, talking confidentially to a warm and trusted person, feeling heard, validated and understood can be the first step towards healing and taking those small, but very courageous movements towards healing and growth.

I would like to ask if you can identify with any of the questions below?

* Do you feel overwhelmed by worry or sadness in your current situation?

*Is your anxiety becoming too much to handle?

* Are you experiencing dark or disturbing thoughts?

*Have you lost your direction or purpose in life?

*Have you suffered abuse (emotional, physical or sexual) from people in your past or the present?

*Have you experienced a loss (divorce, relationship, job loss or any loss that has impacted you)

*Is bereavement effecting you? this may be sudden traumatic bereavement or a past bereavement.

*Do you question your sexual identity or gender? and discover who you really want to be?

*Do you feel that depression is consuming you?

*Are you affected by a divorce, a relationship issue or an affair?

*Does stress seem to control your life and relationships?

*Is self harm something you want to talk about, understand and process with a safe and trusted person?

*Do you want to truly value yourself for who you are?

If the answer to these questions are yes, then I would love the opportunity to work with yourself, and help you begin to process what you are experiencing. I believe we all need someone who genuinely 'sees us' for who we truly are, without judgement and can look beyond our situation, our shame and our fears.

I offer a free of charge 15 minute consultation session, to see if counselling with me would work for you. There is no obligation to continue after the free session, the most important thing is to see if it feels right for you. The sessions can either be over telephone, online or face to face, which will give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

Counselling can be expensive, however, it can also be life affirming and ultimately life changing. My sessions are usually weekly, however, if this doesn't work with your finances or time restraints, fortnightly or even monthly sessions are also an option.

As a qualified integrative counsellor with many years experience in working in mental health, the approaches I use are Cognitive behavioural therapy, Person-centred therapy, Solution focused therapy, Psychodynamic therapy and mindfulness. I also offer the practice of metaphors of movement, using images, metaphors and idioms to evoke insights beyond our conscious awareness.

The approaches above are tools to bring awareness and enabling insight to make positive changes within your life. I am a fully insured practitioner and an MBACP registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, as well as an accredited member of the NCS (National Counselling Society).

My services include:

All sessions are 50 minutes long. I offer face to face sessions in a comfortable and quiet setting. I also offer Video sessions on the Zoom platform and telephone sessions.

Payments are paid through bank transfer.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a number of years experience in working with clients who display anxiety, low self worth, shame, grief, addiction and relationship issues.

I have recently offered counselling to clients at the Delamere centre at Halton hospital and have counselled clients at Night stop community services in widnes. I also spent 3 years at samaritans as a listening volunteer.

Being real and authentic with another person can be extremely scary. However, gradually sharing your true feelings with a trusted person can be the beginnings of finding out who you truly are. This can be a difficult journey of self discovery but one of most valuable and beautiful things you will ever do for yourself.

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
