About me

I'm Dan, a Hackney-based Therapist who specialises in helping people better understand their emotional and mental health to feel more in control of their lives.

If you are struggling with anxiety, low self-esteem, trauma, depression, addiction, low self-confidence, relationship difficulties, or just feel like you are struggling but don't know why, I think I can help.  Please take a look at my website to see people’s experience of therapy with me.

I work collaboratively with clients using Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), a time-limited model originating in the NHS. CAT offers us the scaffolding to focus on your problems in an adaptable, flexible and transparent way. I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy (EMDR) which focuses on supporting people to process trauma and experiences/memories that are holding them back.

Working together, we will look at your current difficulties, feelings, thoughts and beliefs in the context of the events and relationships underlying these experiences (often from childhood or earlier in life). Helping you better understand yourself in relation to your history will lead to you being more consciously aware of what drives how you feel and relate to yourself and others. By recognising these patterns, we can find new healthier ways of relating and being.

Treating you as the unique individual that you are will allow us to work out how best to help you help yourself. Our work is to provide you with a new way of thinking about yourself and install your internal therapist so that you continue progressing and developing after our work together finishes.

I offer either longer term or time-limited amount of sessions (between 4-24), and knowing how many sessions we will have allows us to focus on our work together and for you to understand how much financial investment will be required.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified and accredited  Cognitive Analytic Therapist and Supervisor, EMDR trained and accredited Mentalisation Based Treatment (MBT) Practitioner and Coach Supervisor with over 20 years experience in the NHS and private practice.  I have worked across a range of NHS mental health services and have provided individual therapy to hundreds of people.  I have worked in a number of  specialist Psychotherapy and mental health services including the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust where I spent 5 years as a senior clinician and supervisor. I also spent 5 years specialising in working with people with personally disorder diagnosis in a London based service.

Alongside my therapy work I also supervise a range of other Psychotherapists, Psychologists and mental health professionals.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

ACAT
The Association of Cognitive Analytic Therapy (ACAT)

The Association for Cognitive Analytic Therapy (ACAT) is a registered charity. They welcome members of the public, health professionals, ACAT accredited professionals, and anyone interested in finding out more about CAT. They list CAT practitioners.
