About me

Hi, I'm Courteney, I work as an integrative psychotherapist. Integrative psychotherapy is a practice where a therapist integrates elements from different models of therapy.

The modalities that I currently work in is Psychodynamic therapy, Person-centred therapy and CBT.

Psychodynamic therapy focuses on how current feelings, thoughts and behaviours can be connected to and shaped by past experiences and unconscious processes.

Person-centred therapy focuses on providing empathy,  congruence and acceptance to help an individual to understand and accept themselves. Person-centred therapy allows the individual to lead the therapy sessions in focusing on what they want to bring and how they would like to process their experiences.

CBT focuses on how thoughts, feelings and behaviours can impact on someones mental and emotional well-being. CBT provides psycho-education, skills and techniques to help manage and overcome negative thoughts and beliefs. In addition to changing negative feelings and behaviours.

My expertise are working with clients who have experienced trauma, sexual violence, domestic abuse and childhood abuse.

Although I am also experienced in working with a range of presenting problems such as, shame, guilt, blame, low self esteem and confidence, anxiety, depression, self harm and suicidal intent, relationship difficulties and relationship attachments.

I am also able to offer Pre-trial therapy.

I feel it is important to develop an understanding and awareness of what your triggers are and what has caused your presenting problems as well as working with how to overcome and manage the impact of this now.  I value the importance of autonomy in the therapy room, for you to have a choice in how you want to work and process through your presenting problems whilst supporting you in this journey.

I place importance on creating a safe and trusting environment whilst building a therapeutic rapport with my clients in order to provide a space for clients to explore and process their feelings, thoughts and experiences.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a Masters degree in Integrative Psychotherapy (Level 7 qualified). I have experience working within a private practice setting in addition to working within a charity providing support to clients who've experienced sexual violence and rape.

I am a registered member of the BACP and I am fully insured.

I am also a qualified Independent sexual violence advisor, which has given me the experience of working with trauma, sexual violence and childhood abuse, delivering a combination of practical and emotional support. Alongside this, working within the criminal justice process and understanding the impact a criminal case has on an individual.

CPD courses I've completed alongside my training:

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
