About me

Clients have told me they find sifting through issues in a calm place incredibly helpful. Each day, we all experience hundreds of thoughts, feelings, behaviours, and beliefs. Now imagine those thoughts, feelings, behaviours and beliefs each as a piece of furniture in a room. Some of them are comfortable and look good, they have served you well and continue to do so. Some of them might need a bit of re-upholstering in order for them to work for you now as you have grown over time. And some of them might need taking out completely as they no longer serve you. They might trip you up and hinder the progress to fulfil the life you want. Counselling can give you the tools and space to figure out

  • what stays,
  • what might need updating and
  • what you could get rid of.

It’s a chance to walk alongside someone how can guide and support you in those changes. Change doesn’t have to be so scary.

Attending counselling can be daunting, even if it’s not your first time. I know this from experience! Given time and persistence counselling can guide you from feeling like:

  • Overwhelmed
  • Not good enough
  •  Frustration at being misunderstood

to:

  • Feeling more calm and secure
  • Being able to say no and
  • Taking care of yourself when others try to sabotage you.

Training, qualifications & experience

Both in my career spanning 15 + years, as well as in my personal life I have had the honour of listening to people who were struggling in different settings especially when I worked in blue light services supporting those in crisis; sitting with those contemplating if life is worth living, reflecting on conversations they’ve had about who they are and who others want them to be, and working out a way to stand up for themselves. I love to encourage people to make decisions that serve them well, such as finding an alternative to unhelpful behaviours. Watching clients go from feeling unsure and not worthy to creating an environment for themselves where they can grow and thrive is the most rewarding part of my role. I can relate to this, as I have been that person who always put others before myself. I want to share those insights with you, in a supportive, understanding way.

I intentionally waited to study for my MSc until I had life experience and a broader knowledge base. This has led me to be a better therapist. It is through my own struggles and experience of broken relationships that I have grown as a person. My research on the separation of twins reinforced my desire to support others in being who they are and not who others expect them to be. I bring a compassionate approach to my sessions and a belief in the value of honouring authenticity in oneself.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

I understand that meeting a stranger and sharing personal details is uncomfortable. Therefore, I start by offering a free no-obligation call. You can decide then if you'd like to book in a session and if that will be online or in person. The first session may seem like a lot of questions however it's a chance for me to hear about you and understand what's brought you to therapy. Also, you decide exactly what you want to share and when. I am bound by confidentiality which I take seriously and will explain more when we meet. My goal is to make the experience as comfortable as possible and be able to help you achieve what you want to achieve from therapy.
