About me

Hi, I'm Claire and I offer a safe, warm-hearted counselling service in my online counselling room and in person located in Street, Somerset. My practice hours are Monday to Friday.

I'm an Integrative Counsellor, which means I weave together a mix of therapy styles in response to what you might need as a client.  However, you are at the centre of that, and I'm here to listen deeply and help you unpick your clearer path forward and take care of your mental wellbeing.

I offer 1:1 counselling to adults & young people.  These are some of things we might do in our sessions together:

  • A space for you to talk, in confidence about what is going on for you. A space for you to be heard, acknowledged and supported
  • Somatic exercises such as breathing practices, body scans and getting a felt sense of the body, sometimes we might develop this into a creative visualisation with a story that links body and unconscious mind.  This is an opportunity to learn tools to build resilience. This can be recorded to use at home.
  • Explore your story and identity through journaling, letter writing, making a mask, a memory box, drawing a timeline, a life-story book, or working with images, photographs and even online profiles.
  • Reflective exercises to aid emotional regulation & insight such as mind maps, tree of life, circle of control, wheel of wellbeing.
  • This creative approach is adaptable to online working.

However, all of this will come out of a space for you, to talk. The therapeutic relationship is a safe space filled with unconditional positive regard for you wherever you are at.

These are some of the things that might bring you to counselling:
  • Life not running smoothly, difficult behaviour, addictions, anxiety, depression, not feeling ok, feeling unregulated - too sad, happy, numb, intrusive thoughts, sleep disturbances. Life is no longer manageable. We might ask "What’s going on?"
  • Traumatic events from the past signalling to you that they need your attention by appearing over and over in your present. We might ask "What do you need to be free from this trauma?"
  • Dealing with a limiting physical or mental health condition. We might ask "What does this mean and what support do I need to thrive and not just survive"?
  • Being neuro-divergent and needing to make sense of the experience through a new filter. We might ask "Who am i really underneath the masking?"
  • Normal life events such as loss of a loved one, or a right of passage like leaving home, getting married, getting divorced, we might ask "What am I feeling and what do I need?"

I can embrace your difference and diversity and meet you in your world. Together we can explore and arrive at acceptance or change.

I offer a free online 30 minute consultation giving us chance to find out if it fits to work together. I will be asking you some questions including what has brought you to counselling at this time. This is a chance for you to ask me questions too, such as what might happen in our sessions? I will let you know if I can offer you counselling and this is a time for you to reflect if I'm the right counsellor for you.

The therapeutic relationship is based on mutual consent and agreement to work together focusing on your specific goals for a period of time. I recommend a minimum of 6 counselling sessions then we review.  At the review point we can look at what has changed, what is working and what isn't. You can set new goals and we can continue or we can wrap things up and end.

Looking forward to hearing from you and helping you find a clear path forward in your life.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
