About me

I provide a genuine, caring, professional face to face inclusive counselling service to people across North Wales, but cover all geographic areas in the UK for clients who wish to access telephone and online counselling. I can help you with a range of common life problems including: anxiety, relationship issues, loss, bereavement, depression, lack of confidence, stress, separation and divorce. This is not an inclusive list as we are all unique individuals and bring our own specific issues to counselling.

How I Work

I offer a confidential, non-judgemental, listening ear to all clients who choose to see me for counselling. I believe all clients have valuable experience in understanding their own situation, and that they bring this with them to the counselling sessions. So, during your appointments, I will work with you to enable you to empower yourself and to face the specific issues that you are experiencing. I believe as human beings we all deserve happiness, and that what happens to us matters.

Am I The Right Counsellor For You?

My own personal and professional lives have enabled me to develop certain skills which I bring to counselling sessions. Personally, I have had to overcome many situations in my life where I have had to resolve conflict created by bullies - particularly in my childhood. So I understand at a personal level the potential damaging effects that bullying can have, but I am also hopeful that in most instances counselling can enable clients to restore a sense of emotional wellbeing.

Professionally, I feel that it is useful for counsellors to have an understanding of psychology; and also the wider social issues that can potentially impact on clients. I believe that I have developed this understanding from my previous roles as a nurse and senior practitioner social worker.

Completing an MSc in Psychology, enabled me to develop this understanding further. In the 1980s I also worked as a volunteer aid worker with Cambodian refugees in Thailand this gave me a deeper understanding of the nature of conflict and the trauma experienced by displaced people.

Professionally, I try to keep up to date with current counselling research. I also have a specific understanding of Selective Mutism, an anxiety disorder which can affect both children and adults. I am the joint author of : Selective Mutism In Our Own Words - Experiences in Childhood and Adulthood. The foreword to this book was written by leading Autism author, Donna Williams. Further information

In terms of access for clients wishing to access in person face to face counselling, my office is located in my property which is a bungalow. However there are a couple of steps before entering the porch. Once inside the premises is all at one level. I feel this location is suitable to clients who have moderate mobility difficulties but not completely wheelchair accessible due to steps to the porch. There is parking at the property for a car if clients require it. I have the technical equipment in my office to offer online counselling both by zoom and telephone depending on the clients wishes. I offer all the above forms of counselling Monday to Thursday between 9am and 4.30pm. I can offer online counselling in the evenings from 7pm Monday to Thursday.
