About me
Hello and thank you for taking the time to look through my profile. I understand how important it is that you find the right therapist for you, so I will try my best to explain who I am and how I work below. If you are left with any questions or would find it easier to talk to me directly please feel free to get in touch.
How I work
I am a humanistic Gestalt counsellor with training in CBT and person-centred therapy, this means that sessions can be adapted to support your individual needs and goals. I offer a warm, welcoming environment and a non-judgmental, empathic, and confidential space for you to explore safely and at your own pace. To make your search for the right counsellor as easy as possible, I provide free 30 minute no obligation session over the telephone or video link.
I have a particular interest in bereavement and loss. I have found that loss has the ability to affect all aspects of a person’s life, and this has given me the experience of working with many other presenting issues such as, anxiety, depression, low self-confidence or self-esteem, unfinished business, trauma, LGTBQ + issues for individuals and their families, and many more.
For some the thought of counselling can be a daunting one, please be assured that we will work at your pace and only with the issues you feel comfortable to focus on. I understand that the reasons that have brought you to this page, may also be causing a sense of fear and uncertainty, and at times feel overwhelming. I aim to support you in this by creating an understanding, genuine and compassionate environment, and try to be as flexible and accommodating as possible to support your needs and achieve your therapeutic goals.
Animal Assisted Therapy
I also offer animal assisted therapy with the support of my Beagle Basil. Animals in the therapy room can decrease anxiety, lower levels of stress, lower blood pressure and heighten creativity, they also offer a support and safety when exploring difficult and potentially upsetting issues. You can see more about animal assisted therapy and Basil and David on my Facebook page.
What is Gestalt counselling?
Gestalt focuses on the whole person, their thoughts and feelings and their environment and the people in it. It uses the therapeutic relationship between the client and counsellor to help things change for the better by exploring how your environment (past and present), thoughts and feelings may be affecting you in the here and now. Gestalt offers the opportunity to work creatively should you wish; this can also make it a good therapy for people who find it difficult to identify or verbalize their feelings. It is a Humanistic way of working, this means that your needs, goals, and unique view of the world will be at the centre of our work together.
I would like to finish by saying thank you for taking the time to look through my profile. I wish you luck on your journey to achieving your therapeutic goals and I hope I may be able to aid you alone the way.

Member organisations

The National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society
This Not For Profit association of counsellors and psychotherapists aim to support the counselling profession, members and training organisations.
In 2013 the NCS register was accredited by the Professional Standards Authority under the Accredited Voluntary Register Scheme. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
Areas of counselling I deal with
Other areas of counselling I deal with
I have a particular interest in loss. It is important to recognise that loss can involve bereavement, it can also involve the loss of many other things, the loss of a job a home or a relationship, the loss of a plan for your future, the perceived loss of control, the loss of possessions after a theft or fire, the loss of a sense of safety, the perception of loss within a transition. Loss and bereavement can cause a sense of fear and uncertainty and it tends to affect every aspect of self and life and can at times feel overwhelming. For these reasons I offer short and longer term, flexible therapy as this gives us the opportunity to work at a pace that feels safe and comfortable for you.
