About me

Hi, my name is Emma and I am a qualified Counsellor from the Reading area.

Do you suffer from anxiety or depression? Perhaps there are unresolved family issues that are causing you stress and you would like help in dealing with managing relationships?  Are you having work-related stress due to people walking all over your boundaries?

Sometimes people feel 'out of sorts' but are not entirely sure what they want from therapy. This is perfectly normal and quite often the case. We can work together to consider what has brought you to counselling and this will be done at your own pace.

There may be many reasons why you are feeling anxious or depressed in your life. I can offer you an opportunity to take some time to work through your difficulties, find your voice and consider your own needs.

I offer you a calm, confidential space where you can come and discuss whatever is on your mind. With my approach, I consider you to be the expert on your own life and I am here to help you contemplate what has made you feel this way and what changes you can make.

Generally, counselling is a talking therapy but we can consider other ways of creatively working if you find this difficult.

I have previously worked in Primary Education for 25 years and offer imaginative ways of working to help my clients open up and access their feelings.

I work with:

Those suffering from anxiety, depression, work-related stress, relationship problems, worry and  other forms of stress in their lives.

Carers of SEN children;

Carers of elderly parents (sandwich generation);

Grief and bereavement;

Sufferers and the partners of Menopause and Peri-menopause;

Difficult family relationships including mother and daughter dynamics.

Clients describe me as being warm, relaxed and easy to open up to.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

Before our first session, I offer a free phone call to assess the issues that have brought you to counselling.

This is also a time for you to ask me any initial questions that you may have.

Should you decide to go ahead with a first session, I will email you a contract and payment information.

The first session is often about us getting to know each other and deciding which direction our work will take.  I offer short term goal oriented therapy as well as long term therapy for deeper work.  If this sounds like something that could work for you please feel free to get in touch via my email or mobile.

I offer counselling face to face, online and via telephone whichever is convenient to you.
