About me

I am an experienced counsellor and psychotherapist offering a safe, non-judgemental place where you can make sense of where you are, develop understanding and compassion for yourself, and work out a way to move more comfortably into your future, to build the life you want to live.

I am an Integrative Therapist. This enables me to draw on a range of approaches to tailor the therapy to each individual client. Building a strong, trusting, co-creative therapeutic relationship with you is the foundation for exploring what troubles you, and for changing behavioural patterns and healing past trauma. I will support and guide you to discover and draw on the wisdom and strength of your body. This way of working enables us to transform our own processes, as well as how we relate with others, in order to find emotional freedom.

I have experience of working long-term in private practice, in NHS Secondary Care, and in low-cost community settings. I also have experience of working short-term in University counselling and community NHS primary care settings. I work with anxiety, generalised anxiety disorder, depression, sadness, trauma, relationship and family difficulties, childhood relational trauma, issues of identity, sense of self, self-esteem and self-compassion, obsessional thinking, and loss and bereavement.

My approach is tailored to each individual client, drawing on a range of modalities to enable us to work deeply and relationally to build understanding and awareness, and shift patterns of relating to self and others, and to life situations and challenges. We can learn to use our bodies as well as our minds to support this self-discovery and growth. I draw on theory and technique from Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Attachment Based Psychotherapy, Body Psychotherapy and CBT and Mindfulness techniques. In line with Humanistic Principles I recognise, value and work with the whole person, in the belief that each person contains within them the potential for growth and transformation, which I facilitate by creating a nurturing, supportive therapeutic environment. I believe strongly in the healing power of compassion.

As a registered member of BACP and an accredited member of UKCP, I abide by the principles of their Ethical Frameworks. My practice is a short walk from Folkestone West station, with free parking. Confidential messages can be left on the phone number provided, or you can email me. I offer a free brief phone consultation before meeting.

Training, qualifications & experience

I undertook my Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy training at The Minster Centre, in London, affiliated with Middlesex University. This is the UK's leading Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling Institution. I hold a Diploma, an Advanced Diploma and MA in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy. I completed my Foundation Certificate in Psychodynamic Psycotherapy at WPF, in London.

I am a registered member of the BACP and UKCP, and abide by the principles of their Ethical Frameworks.

I have experience of working in University and NHS Community counselling and psychotherapy services, as well as working in Private Practice.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
