About me

In your search for a therapist, what are you looking for? Qualifications? Experience? Someone who has a broad depth of understanding which has evolved over many, many years of professional service and yet provides a reasonably-priced service? Perhaps I might be the right person for you.

I gained a Ph.D in Health Science (Psychotherapy) in 2009 at the age of 58. In my eight-year research study, I devised a CBT-based therapeutic programme to use with a group of loners who were unable to relate to others. This difficulty may not be yours but I hope it illustrates that, even at the very highest level, I have always have been a totally 'hands-on' practitioner. Indeed, I have worked in mental health for over forty-five years. I am registered and accredited with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and now, in private practice, see clients in the tranquility of my own riverside home.

I was originally trained as an integrative counsellor, which means that I learnt the whole spectrum of psychological approaches. When working with you, I would try to explore what your specific needs are and how choices can be made to promote positive change. We might also explore your past - if that is relevant - so that together we can analyse your current situation with deeper insight and then plan future goals. At the end of the day, the only thing that actually matters is that the most suitable approach by the most suitable person is utilised to deal with your specific difficulty.

Problems are rarely too big that they cannot be delicately unravelled. Conversely, your concern would never be perceived as too trivial. Everything you tell me is treated in a respectful way with the utmost confidentiality. Always my work complies with the highest ethical standards of my professional body.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Testimonials

"You offered me a space where I could discuss my issues and helped me to think of ways to deal with my deep-rooted depression. Against all the odds my mood has much improved. You have brilliant listening skills Cassandra but I think your real talent is your amazing ability to encourage people to question their long-held negative beliefs and think of their very own solutions to move forward. I have seen many therapists over the years but would never go to anyone else again."   GK. Falmouth.

"I was in such a dark place. I had lived with the deep trauma of my abusive childhood for over fifty years and then suddenly I couldn't survive another single day of haunting memories. Instinctively I trusted you because of your instant warmth and sincerity. We went at a pace which was comfortable to me and you were there on that emotional journey every step of the way, allowing me to slowly release a torrent of long-held pain and let it go forever. Cassandra, you literally saved my life." SL. Truro.

"You were recommended because of your vast experience in couple counselling and we came as a couple in despair. You were firm and fair to both of us, showing no favouritism whatsoever. We had equal time to speak in a safe, controlled environment which felt totally empowering. After just a few sessions we were able to see for ourselves that our marriage was worth saving, although you never put that pressure on us. Cassandra, both of us cannot thank you enough for your professionalism, integrity and total impartiality, even though you must have felt like banging our heads together at times." HF. Bodmin.
