About me

Hello and welcome

Well done for trying to find a counsellor you would like to talk to. My name is Caroline Strachan and I am a fully qualified and experienced counsellor.
Clients describe me as calm, caring and friendly and say that they feel heard and understood and that this is helpful.

Life can be great but it can also be tough and confusing. Struggles in life are normal. We all face them and it’s completely understandable to want to feel better or different.

Are you struggling with something now? You don’t have to face issues or concerns on your own. I am trained to help you make sense of what you are facing and I feel passionately about the potential and opportunities within counselling for positive life changes.

Do you feel ready to find out more? You can drop me an email, call me or send me a text. You don’t need to go into detail - you can just give me an indication of why you are looking for counselling. I am happy to answer any questions you may have. I also have more information on my website which you may find helpful.

I offer a free 20 minutes initial telephone or online call to offer you the opportunity to explore what you hope to gain from counselling and how I can best support you.

How might counselling help?

Talking with someone unconnected with your life events can be helpful, however distressing or confusing things may feel right now. I would use my experience and skills as a counsellor to help you make sense of your situation, with warmth and understanding and realness every step of the way. This is your space to be you.

People choose counselling for many different reasons. Some people might be finding it harder to do things, don’t want to feel so sad or depressed, or perhaps need help with anger. Anxiety and its effects are common and people talk about wanting to feel less anxious.

We can take the time you need to look at relationship issues. If it feels that life could be a bit easier if something was less confusing or resolved, counselling can help provide clarity. Counselling can be a safe space for you, time to be with whatever. It can be about acknowledging what is helpful and moving on from what is not. We look together at raising awareness.

Counselling can provide some respite, some relief and it’s ok to not know what it is that’s bothering you. You may be feeling out of sorts or just not yourself and that may bring you into counselling as you want to feel like yourself again.

I have found that there are also areas that are perhaps too difficult or confusing to put into words and when you feel ready to do so, to get in touch, we could start to make some sense of those together.

Where would we meet?

We would meet in the welcoming Modbury Therapy centre, near Kingsbridge, to give you the opportunity to check out whether the room, building and location are OK for you too. There’s a short term and long term car park, on street parking as well as a bus stop nearby.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
