About me

Is life feeling difficult and overwhelming for you at the moment? Are you experiencing anxiety or low self esteem or a lack of confidence?  Are you struggling with family issues?  Do you suspect you may be on the autistic spectrum or have you received a diagnosis and are trying to navigate life with this new information? Have you grown up trying to battle through life with an autistic diagnosis?   Hello.  I'm Carrie.  Welcome to my page.  Please take the time to read on to gain an insight into how I work with my clients...

When we feel we are struggling with life's challenges, we all need a warm, friendly and  supportive space where we can feel truly listened to and heard without judgement and where we can unpiece and process.  I understand that we can feel nervous and anxious when we decide to reach out , and it is my job to reach in. Trust is key and a Person Centred Counsellor will place the therapeutic relationship at the heart of the counselling process allowing you to feel safe and truly heard.

As a Person Centred Counsellor I will listen to you without judgement and support you empathically whilst we unpick what is happening in your life and look at ways at confronting and overcoming the issues in the best way possible that is best for you.  I work at a pace to suit you and draw on my training and experience as we work together enabling and empowering you to find solutions and answers...

My specialisms are in working with those on the autistic spectrum (I am an ATAA trained practitioner),  anxiety, depression, low self esteem, relationship issues, loss and trauma and grief (aswell as pet bereavement).   However some of my clients seek counselling for more general non specific issues, such as looking and reflecting on how they are navigating life and the struggles it can present us with such as work and family pressures and general stress....

I offer both short and long term Counselling currently via the telephone and/or the online platform Doxy (which is similar to Zoom) and I am happy to discuss your preferences in this respect. I also offer flexibility on the frequency and length of the sessions depending on your needs. Some of my clients tell me they find a 50 minute session too long and too intense and prefer a 30 minute slot. Others prefer fortnightly sessions rather than weekly sessions as it gives them a longer time to process.  I am very mindful of the rising cost of living and the impact this can have on clients so concessions are always available.  Please do ask.

I am fully insured, a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and have an accredited online and telephone counselling qualification.

Please contact me via email to arrange a free initial telephone consultation if you would like to explore whether I am the right therapist for you and you feel we can work together: the laurels@protonmail.com  It is important that you find a therapist that is the right fit for you and that you feel comfortable with.

Whilst you consider and explore what you would like your own personal counselling journey to feel and  look like, please check out my Facebook page for daily posts and tips on mental health and emotional wellbeing:

Please remember your emotional wellbeing is important and worthy of your attention as it is a key component to leading a full and meaningful life.  In my experience embarking on the counselling journey can be the first step towards healing and is worth investing in emotionally.  I have seen it lead to a deeper sense of fulfilment, contentment and happiness on so many levels.  Take care.  Carrie x

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
