About me

If you're struggling with painful feelings, as we all do from time to time, it's always good to talk about them.  I am experienced working with all sorts of issues that cause anger, confusion, pain, depression, anxiety, and other uncomfortable feelings. This may be one of the reasons you have sought some counselling support. My intention is to help with the exploration of the issues causing life to feel difficult,  assisting in a deeper level of understanding.  Developing self-awareness can establish a different way of coping with problems as they arise, helping to promote a healthy and safe way of maintaining good relationships.

I have been a professional therapeutic counsellor for 17 years with commitment to help maintain healthy and safe personal relationships.  Building the relationship with the client is an important part of the way I work, helping them to build trust in the process of counselling.  I will work at your pace, reviewing the work openly between us, encouraging the space to be a place of honesty and trust.

My practice is built on the foundation of exploring difficult situations with clients, listening and providing a comfortable safe space with openness, warmth and honesty.  Talking things through helps to develop deeper awareness.  It can be a safe space for feelings to emerge, be understood, and for ways forward to be clarified.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

I offer a 20 minute conversation on the phone before we arrange an assessment session.  This way you will be able to get a feeling of how I work and whether this appeals to you.  During this call we will arrange the assessment.

The counselling room is a comfortable private space, where we can begin to discuss the current problems leading you to make enquiries for a counsellor.  The initial assessment hour will include some details of past history and childhood experiences.  From this session we will make a rough frame of the work we do together in the following sessions.

I have experience working both long term and short term with clients, meaning that I have an understanding of the processes and benefits of both.  It can usually be determined within the first few sessions, between us, whether it is a short piece of work or longer.
