About me

My name is Andy, and I have been an accredited psychotherapist and counsellor for over fifteen years. Prior to that I worked in the public and charity sectors, building helping relationships with people of all backgrounds. It is my belief that counselling should be a flexible and supportive process; one that is firmly grounded in theory but also adapted to suit the strains and difficulties of modern life. My particular areas of interest are work around sexual and gender identity, trauma, relationship and sexual difficulties, anxiety and depression, sexual violation, bereavement and chronic illness. If I can help at all, or if you would like a brief and informal chat about what therapy involves and how it might help you, please do get in touch - I would be very happy to hear from you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have completed the following training courses in psychotherapy and counselling at Regents University in London, which led to my accreditation with the UKCP:

  • Advanced diploma in integrative psychotherapy and counselling (2010)
  • Postgraduate diploma in integrative psychotherapy and counselling (2008)
  • Foundation certificate in integrative psychotherapy and counselling (2006)

I have worked as a psychotherapist, counsellor and helpline worker at several charities over the last 20 years, including Macmillan Cancer Support, Terrence Higgins Trust, PACE Health and SurvivorsUK. I have also worked as a counsellor in Higher Education. I am trained in clinical supervision (Metanoia Institute) and have extensive experience of managing counselling and helpline services, and providing counselling in innovative ways, such as by SMS and online.

UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Wheelchair user access
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.
