About me

Truly being heard can sometimes be all it takes to start to make sense of how we are feeling.

I'm Amy and I am a friendly and down to earth counsellor who will listen with empathy and non-judgement to give you the compassionate attention you need to help you explore thoughts, emotions or experiences that may be causing you difficulties.

My hope is that we can work together so that you can feel authentically yourself and accepted for who you are so you can face life stronger and with more self-awareness.

In addition to, and alongside counselling, I also offer Animal Assisted Therapy. Having animals in the therapy room can provide comfort and help contribute to a feeling of warmth and safety.  Animals can offer affection and true acceptance and can show us how to appreciate the joy of the present moment - they don't worry about what happened yesterday or what might happen tomorrow.  Positive interactions between people and animals can help to improve mood, self worth and confidence, they can provide relief from stress and anxiety and encourage the development of relationships and emotional bonds built on trust and respect.  I work with my own pets; a dog and two cats.

If you are hoping to find someone you can trust and feel safe with then please get in touch.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a Foundation Degree in Integrative Counselling and I'm a Registered Member of The British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists.

I have many years of experience in working in different capacities with young people, children and new mothers. I have also served as a voluntary counsellor with the Dartmoor Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy.

I am also qualified and insured to offer Animal Assisted Therapy.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
