About me

Have you been feeling down or anxious?

Maybe you are struggling within a relationship or have experienced the death of a loved one?

Are you/ have you been diagnosed with ADHD or Autism and you are wondering what that means for you?

Maybe, you don’t know why you feel the way you do; you just feel like you need space to talk.

As someone who has experienced counselling myself, I can honestly say counselling can help.

Hello and welcome. I'm Amy, a qualified specialist BACP registered counsellor. I specialise working with clients around grief, trauma, depression, anxiety, relationships, Autism and ADHD. I have studied and supported clients around these matters for the last ten years in both educational and clinical settings.

Having received counselling myself after a suicide bereavement and the breakdown of a long-term relationship, I know how daunting and overwhelming it can be to make those first steps. That's why I offer a calm, compassionate and caring space, where you can feel heard, understood and able to be yourself.

Counselling was the best thing I have ever done for myself, and many of my clients agree as it can help you to recognise your own behaviours and patterns, as well as strengths and internal resources to help you to eventually feel better. By talking through things with someone outside of your social circle, you can finally feel relief and validation, eventually leading to the processing of difficult life experiences. I invite you to book a free introductory chat to see how much better things can start to be.

A little about me:

I am from Manchester but currently live in Wigan with my two (very needy) persian cats, though I work from premises in Bolton and Ormskirk. I am a huge game/ movie nerd and I enjoy any new art project I can get my hands. I love music and reading, though I tend to use Audible more and more often. I have ADHD and I was diagnosed in later life. This was a huge learning curve for me as I started to finally understand myself which helped me to find positive coping strategies, and overall, become much kinder to myself.

How I work:

My approach means you'll work with me by talking through any feelings, issues, or events...anything that you want to explore or is concerning you in an effort to gain understanding of yourself in order to promote real change. I provide sessions that embrace people’s individuality as I consider it a deep privilege to be part of the therapeutic process. I offer 30 or 50-minute in-person, online and telephone counselling sessions, whatever makes you feel most comfortable.

  • I believe healthy relationships are key to our overall wellbeing and the impact of these can be far-reaching.
  • I understand the all-consuming loss of someone you love and feeling as though the world has stopped spinning.
  • I understand the constant internal battle of struggling with ADHD and Autism. Time-blindness is real. The lack of motivation is real. Lack of object permanence is infuriating and peoples understanding of just these simple aspects of neurodivergence can create feelings of lonliness and isolation.

Previous clients have said:

  • "You were the first person who truly saw me and allowed me to be myself"
  • "You set me free"
  • "I have never valued myself more"
  • "My relationships and outlook on life are completely different"
  • "I never thought things would get better but you helped me see how I could make them get better"

Ultimately, I hope to empower you with the tools to understand yourself more fully and to change your own . With deepening understanding, you can gain ownership over your own experience, continuing growth, and positive well-being.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Is the idea of counselling confusing or overwhelming for you? You may have a lot of questions, which is why I offer a free 20-minute consultation so that we can discuss the therapeutic process as well as your hopes and expectations for counselling. I understand how strange it can feel to sit across from a stranger and talk about your experiences but I also know how much better it can feel after working through these tough situations and emotions so in this session we can discuss any requirements you may have or any concerns.
