About me

Hello and a warm welcome to my profile. Whatever it is that you are struggling with at the moment, it is really encouraging that you have found yourself thinking about reaching out for some support. It can be difficult to admit to yourself that you might need some help with your mental health. Contacting me is not a sign of weakness - it is positive that you are taking these initial steps. You are taking the time to prioritise yourself and your mental wellbeing.

Why Come to Counselling?

Life can feel difficult or overwhelming at the best of times, and the past couple of years in particular have amplified a lot of things for people. Furthermore, Christmas and New Year can stir up a lot of memories, feelings and emotions. When we feel overwhelmed, anxious and isolated it can be difficult to know where to turn. We don't want to bother our friends or family with our problems, we don't want to sound like we're complaining, ungrateful or appear weak so we keep these feelings to ourselves. Over time the pressure of continually doing this feels exhausting and sometimes we reach a point where we just feel like we can't do it anymore.

What to Expect

Counselling offers a space where you can speak freely and be open and honest about the thoughts and feelings you have. I will not judge you, nor will I give you advice. Only you can figure out what's best for you - I will simply work alongside you to help you reflect and then come to some understanding yourself.

How I Work

Most of my sessions are online via video conferencing. This has become increasingly popular over the last couple of years and many people find it convenient due to the flexibility it can offer you. I understand that for some people the idea of doing counselling online may feel uncomfortable or daunting. Please feel free to get in touch with me and we can discuss any reservations you may have about this.

If you get in touch with me online please check your Junk folder for my response as my emails can sometimes end up in there instead of your inbox.

Training, qualifications & experience

I graduated with an MSc in Therapeutic Counselling from the University of Greenwich in 2020. I draw on theory from a variety of approaches including psychodynamic, person-centred and humanistic which means I can adapt and be flexible to you and your specific needs in our sessions. Prior to this I spent 5 years delivering CBT based therapy in a group setting.

Sometimes people worry about coming to counselling as they fear that what they are thinking or feeling is too bad, shameful or shocking to say aloud to another person. I have over 3 years experience of working with counselling clients and prior to this spent 9 years working in the prison service - I have had people say all manner of things to me and I assure you I can hear what it is you want to say.

I am a registered member of the BACP and working towards accreditation. I work according to their ethical framework.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
