About me
Hello, I'm a Consultant Clinical Psychologist that currently leads a forensic medium-secure inpatient service within the Midlands. I also work in private practice with individuals for therapy or teams and organisations as a consultant to help enhance team development and cohesion, develop strategy and troubleshoot problems that arise from group dynamics. I've also held a number of Board roles at various charities, therefore understand the pressures of work, when balancing a personal life also!
I've worked therapeutically for a number of years, having qualified in 2011 and held developmental junior roles in the NHS since 2005. However these are not the only roles that have shaped the way I work, roles such as being a Teaching Assistant, Youth Worker and Care Assistant have also contributed to how I balance my therapeutic knowledge along with the realities of life. What I mean is, I understand that sometimes therapy is not the answer and instead, we can have a conversation as to what might be.
I have particular expertise working with men who are experiencing significant difficulties, but are finding it hard to find the right words. Sometimes this might include feeling really low, suicidal, stuck, angry or disconnected. That feeling that can arise when we know something isn't right, but we don't fully know what it is, we might have an idea but need some time to think it through, reconnect and clarify our thoughts. Sometimes this might be about our identity (gender, sexuality, family, work, role etc.)
I will create a safe, confidential and welcoming space for you, and I'll encourage and challenge you to bring yourself, in whatever form it shows up and we will work through things together so we get to the place you want to be. My approach is pretty straight-forward and transparent, I understand and appreciate that you will have questions, and as much as its my job to ask and listen. I know that coming to therapy can be daunting, therefore encourage you to also ask if something comes to mind. Therapy is meant to be supportive, helpful and developmental, but it is also meant to be challenging and in this we will work together to find the right pace and rhythm to ensure you get to where you want to be, if we don't then it is important for us to stop, and help you find someone else that can.
During our first free telephone consultation, we can discuss your hopes, goals and what meeting with a Clinical Psychologist will involve.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have worked in the NHS within the field of Clinical Psychology for over 15 years; 11 of which I have been qualified. I am currently a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Clinical Lead for a specialist service working with adults who have complex difficulties in relating to others and society around them. As a private practitioner I provide clinical supervision to individuals and charities.
I draw on a range of psychological modalities, primarily Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), psychodynamic and narrative therapy. I have experience working with people, groups, organisations and communities, in particular how these interact together influencing the way we stories we tell ourselves and how we relate, think, feel and behave.
I have experience of supporting organisations with developing their service to ensure they get the best out of their workforce whilst also meeting their targets. In particular providing time-limited service to help improve employee well-being.
In addition to my professional registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) I am also registered with the British Psychological Society as a Chartered Psychologist.
