Chartered and Registered Consultant Clinical Psychologist

About me

Hello, I'm a Consultant Clinical Psychologist, I’ve been working therapeutically since 2005, and as a qualified psychologist since 2011.  My approach has evolved over time and I have learned that I best work with people who have complex needs.  I work integratively, primarily combining cognitive behavioural therapy with psychodynamic therapy.  What this means is that I will ask you to consider your thoughts, feelings and relationships to yourself, and others.

Therapy is a strange thing, there are many different approaches with a range of qualifications.  It’s important to ensure that the therapist you choose connects with you emotionally, intellectually and in a way that is both comforting and challenging. The people I work with have benefited from a direct, challenging and transparent approach in the therapy room. This is delivered with compassion and kindness, and in this way I will hold you (and myself!) accountable whilst ensuring you feel supported and contained.  I want to make sure that you develop skills to hopefully not need therapy again. I’m pretty straight-talking, and do this without being hurtful or condescending.  You’re the experts in your lives, I’m here to help.

I have expertise in working with people who are experiencing significant difficulties with their sense of who they are or what is happening in their lives, in relationships and their mental health, whether the cause be complex trauma or it being unclear.  Sometimes this might include feeling really low, suicidal, stuck, angry or disconnected. That feeling that can arise when we know something isn't right, but we don't fully know what it is, we might have an idea but need some time to think it through, reconnect and clarify our thoughts. Sometimes this might be about our identity (gender, sexuality, family, work, role etc.).

During our first free telephone consultation, we can discuss your hopes, goals and what meeting with a Clinical Psychologist will involve.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have worked in the NHS within the field of Clinical Psychology for over 15 years; 11 of which I have been qualified. I am currently a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Clinical Lead for a specialist service working with adults who have complex difficulties in relating to others and society around them. As a private practitioner I provide clinical supervision to individuals and charities.

I draw on a range of psychological modalities, primarily Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), psychodynamic and narrative therapy. I have experience working with people, groups, organisations and communities, in particular how these interact together influencing the way we stories we tell ourselves and how we relate, think, feel and behave.

I have experience of supporting organisations with developing their service to ensure they get the best out of their workforce whilst also meeting their targets. In particular providing time-limited service to help improve employee well-being.

In addition to my professional registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) I am also registered with the British Psychological Society as a Chartered Psychologist.
