About me
Hello - I am an experienced integrative psychotherapist and counsellor accredited and registered with UKCP and a registered member of BACP. I work with individuals and couples on an open-ended basis or for an agreed time period depending on your needs.
How I work
Working integratively means that I bring together different perspectives that help me respond to you holistically as a unique individual. Sometimes our thoughts, feelings and physical well-being may become out of balance and an integrative approach also enables us to look at how these different facets can be brought together in greater harmony.
I am committed to providing a safe, confidential and non judgmental space for you to talk about yourself in a way that is often not possible with family and friends. My role is not to give advice but to explore with you how you can look at things in a different way and make changes in your life. I see the purpose of therapy as enabling you to gain a new understanding of yourself so that you can enhance your life and live it more fully and resourcefully.
Together we can identify the best way of working with the issues that you bring. This may involve taking some time to explore in depth underlying patterns that have arisen from the past, how these impact on you in the present and can be changed. Or you may decide that you want to look at something specific on a short term basis in order to find a solution. In working with couples my aim is to facilitate your communication with one another in understanding the issues that you bring.
About me
I trained originally as a solicitor and more recently as a family mediator for couples on relationship breakdown. Over the past 30 years I have worked in various capacities for children, young people and families: as a practising lawyer, a family mediator and in the charitable sector working to promote change through legal advice and advocacy, policy development and training. From my experience over the years I have gained a good understanding of the issues as well as the challenges and stresses facing those working in this field such as social workers and specialist solicitors.
Training, qualifications & experience
- Post Graduate Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling, Minster Centre, London, 2009
- M.A in Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling, Middlesex University, London, 2009
- Post qualifying Certificate in Couple Therapy and Counselling at the Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy Education, London, 2012
I have 15 years experience of working with clients both in the voluntary and private sector, with the past 10 years as a fully qualified therapist in my private practice. I receive fortnightly supervision and maintain my continuing professional development by attending short courses and keeping up to date with recent developments through reading and peer discussion.
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
