About me

Are you finding it hard to cope with bereavement, loss or change, stress, anxiety, depression,  work related issues, or maybe yearning for a sense of belonging, feeling alone or isolated, feeling you are not 'fitting in? You may wish to change aspects of your life but are afraid to do so. You may feel in great distress and find it hard to talk to family and friends about how you feel.

Perhaps you are struggling to adjust to significant life events  such as moving home, changes at work, adjusting to parenthood or family issues. You may feel so overwhelmed by your thoughts and feelings that it is hard for you to make sense of what is happening and believing  you are escalating out of control and feel powerless.

Negative thoughts might be making you feel so anxious that you are finding it hard to cope with everyday life or you wonder why you keep repeating old unhelpful patterns of behaviour or responses that are causing difficulties for you. Sometimes echoes from the past can impact upon relationships, confidence or self esteem in your personal  or professional  life.

We all at times need help and support through difficult times in our lives. I can offer you a safe, supportive, non judgemental and confidential space to help you work through your issues and develop insight, understanding and gain fresh perspectives. I can help you safely work through the healing process and nurture growth to develop and achieve a better future. I can help you explore choices and consequences and break out of old cycles and patterns of behaviours.

How I work
Whether you are an individual, a couple, a student, child or young person I believe that each client is unique and has different needs and my approach is not a 'one size fits all'  but tailor made to each clients needs. Every client is individually assessed so that the most effective and beneficial support can be given. I work non-directive and help the client to explore the past, how the past may be affecting the present and help empower you to set goals for a better future.

I work from a Integrative Humanistic approach drawing on range of additional interventions including CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy), Mindfulness, Transactional Analysis and  Solution Focused Therapy..

I work either in person at YO41 or via zoom nationwide

I will talk through the options with you at the initial session and can work both long or short term.

I am an accredited registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, UKRCP, BACP Counselling Children and Young People, BACP Counselling in the Workplace and  a member of SANDS (Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Society).

More details can be found on my website www.annsteel.co.uk.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
