About me

Hi, I’m Victoria, a passionate and approachable therapist, qualified in MSc Counselling and Psychotherapy, with Creative Approaches. Welcome to my profile! 

You may wonder what separates myself and the other lovely therapists you see on the counselling directory. Here is what you can expect: 

You will feel valued, accepted and listened to. 

You might be feeling like a burden to others at the moment, or you unable to speak openly about your problems. You may be feeling stuck, or confused about experiences that have happened in the past. Wherever you find yourself now, I can provide the space for you to explore what is really going on, in a warm and down-to-earth way. I will follow your lead during sessions, and I will go at your pace. I know how difficult it can be to talk about how you are feeling, but my approach will enable you to feel valued, accepted and free to explore what is going on. I will offer my perspective on experiences you have shared, invite you to talk about your emotions (as that is normally when things get confusing!), and empower you to come up with solutions or make decisions. All the answers you need are within you, and I will support you to find them. 

You have the opportunity to voice your needs. 

I want to make sure you are getting the most out of your sessions, as I know the financial and emotional investment that goes into this process. Therefore, I will check in with you about how counselling is going. In our first session, we will discuss what your aim is for getting therapeutic support. As we move deeper into sessions, I will check in to ensure we are moving towards your aim. This means that you will have the opportunity to voice your needs, which means it is more likely that you will get the value from your sessions. 

You will have a diverse way of exploring your emotions.

Sometimes, emotions, experiences and thoughts are difficult to talk about, which is why I offer alternative ways to explore them. Alongside talking, I might invite you doodle, make a collage, or experiment with movement. The idea behind this is that it takes the pressure off having to verbally communicate how you feel. It might also bring to light things you haven't thought about before, and therefore, it might help you to understand yourself better. All invitations to be creative are optional - sitting and talking can be more than enough for you. 

If it feels a bit scary to sit with someone... 

My main ways of holding therapy spaces are through video call, or phone call. However, if you have never had therapy before, sitting in front of someone for 50 minutes can feel like a lot. Some people find it easier to be moving whilst talking, and therefore, Walk & Talk Therapy might be for you. Walk & talk therapy gets your body moving, allows you to connect with nature (releasing those feel-good feelings!), and eases the pressure of having to sit in one spot for 50 minutes. During our session, I will support you in discussing your challenges in the comfort of a natural environment. 

Above all, you will feel safe and welcomed, just as you are. 

I am a member of the BACP, and work part-time at a not-for-profit organisation. This experience and professional governance ensure that you are looked after throughout the course of our journey. I take the BACP ethical guidelines seriously, and I ensure I am providing a safe service for you.

Experience 

I have volunteered at Manchester Mind supporting 18-25 years olds with varying issues. I also have volunteered at Manchester Women’s Aid in supporting women who have experienced domestic abuse. I now currently work as a counsellor at a leading mental health charity in North Manchester as well as supporting clients privately.

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

I specialise in Women's Issues. This includes body image issues, women who have experienced domestic abuse, reproductive health, discrimination, and patriarchal issues.  

I specialise in Couples Therapy also. A couple may want to work on specific issues surrounding their relationship. This might include sex, affairs, betrayal, communication issues etc.
