About me

I am a qualified counsellor, offering a compassionate and safe space for us to explore the areas of your life where you may feel overwhelmed, stuck or want to make changes. Perhaps you have noticed yourself repeating the same old patterns or feel life has gone off course and need support or a new perspective to help get things back on track.

Whatever your reasons for seeking counselling, I will take the time to listen and understand what is important to you, before we decide the best way to move forward together.

My approach to counselling is holistic, and responsive to your needs and preferences. This reflects my core training in Transactional Analysis (TA), a talking therapy that provides valuable insights into why we think, feel and behave as we do. TA therapy is founded on the idea that we are born with the ability to make life changes, but our past experiences and stories can limit this. In counselling we will gently, unravel these old patterns together and discover new paths and possibilities.

Have you ever wondered why anxiety, trauma and PTSD can affect your ability to think clearly or make decisions?

The latest research in neurobiology and polyvagal theory suggests, this can result from your body experiencing a chronic flight, fight or freeze response. This occurs when your nervous system believes it is in danger and switches resources away from the brain to the body. When this occurs, talking therapy alone is often ineffective, as our thinking has temporarily "gone off-line. Somatic approaches to therapy can help re-balance the nervous system, enabling you to re-connect with a sense of inner safety, deepen relationships and move forward.

Training, qualifications & experience

Qualifications:

Level 7 Advanced Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy. This training deepened my understanding of a range of therapeutic approaches.

Level 6 Diploma in Counselling. I trained in Transactional Analysis at The Link Centre and am an accredited member of the National Counselling Society.

Certificate in Advanced Counselling Skills.

Certificate in Interpersonal Neurobiology. This course explored the connections between the mind and body and included training to help balance and co-regulate the autonomic nervous system.

Diploma in Holistic Aromatherapy. This comprehensive, full-time course at the Tisserand Institute included modules in anatomy and physiology, nutrition, counselling, massage and body relaxation techniques. Working as an aromatherapist, I observed how trauma can be held in the body and learnt methods to release it.

Experience

My career has been spent in people facing roles, including owning my own businesses, helping people to make choices and improve their resilience and well-being.

I have volunteered as a bereavement counsellor at St. Wilfrid’s Hospice and as  a befriender at Langley Green Mental Health Hospital.

My client work is professionally supervised.
