About me

We all experience difficulties in our lives and quite often are able to overcome them without the help of a counsellor. Sometimes, however, the difficulties we face may leave us confused, unfulfilled or unable to see a way forward.

Counselling can help us to understand our unique selves and make sense of our individual circumstances. Within a non-judgemental, accepting, empathic environment, we may feel empowered to take control of our lives and discover more effective and fulfilling ways of coping.

My Counselling Approach

I am a qualified humanistic counsellor, offering an integrative approach to support the individual needs of my clients. I am grounded in the person-centred approach but may also introduce solution focused or creative techniques if considered helpful.

I offer face to face counselling, both short and long term.

Prior to training as a counsellor, I worked for 15yrs within the NHS as a qualified nurse and then for 11yrs as a manager in a multimedia training college. These experiences brought me in touch with people from all walks of life and I gained  good insight into the types of problems and situations that may require support in the counselling environment.

My Counselling Experience

As a counsellor I have gained experience in working with both adults and children with a wide range of issues.
I was a volunteer for 2yrs with Place2Be, working with children in several Nottingham primary schools.
I also worked at Counselling Xtra where I gained 10yrs experience counselling adults, both long and short term.

My Current Work

I work in private practice with adults (from aged 18yrs) both short and long term.

I provide EAP face to face counselling in association with an occupational health company.

I provide personal therapy for counselling students.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) and am bound by its Ethical Framework for Good Practice.

My Counselling Room

My counselling room is a private, comfortable log cabin situated in my garden in a quiet residential area of Sherwood. It can be easily accessed through a gate next to my house and there are also separate toilet facilities. It is a five minute walk from two main Nottingham city centre bus routes. Roadside parking is also available.

I offer appointment times from Monday to Thursday, 09:00 - 19:00 with some flexibility if required.

If you are considering counselling, please call me for a no obligation chat. We can discuss how I may support your needs so you can decide whether you feel it is right for you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
