About me

  • COVID-19 During this difficult and uncertain time I will offer online therapy (Zoom, Skype, WhatsApp).

I am a qualified counsellor with experience working with adults.  I offer a warm, empathic, non judgemental and confidential space for you to talk freely of your concerns and explore the nature of the difficulties you are experiencing.
My aim is to work alongside you to help you gain a deeper understanding in yourself encouraging a healing process.

I work with individuals and couples facing life challenges such as anxiety, depression, bereavement, relationship issues, self-esteem, sexuality, suicide.

My core approach to counselling is Psychodynamic which means I pay attention to unconscious feelings and how past experiences may have influenced your present patterns of behaviours. Our work will be collaborative and I will make sure that, during the therapeutic process, your needs are met and your pace respected.

Therapy for Couples
In my work with couples I incorporate elements of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) developed by Sue Johnson. EFT is a structured approach based on attachment theory, helping couple to understand and respond effectively to each other's need.

Our first meeting will give us the opportunity to discuss your expectations of counselling and to decide whether we are suited to work together.

My private practice is in Sutton SM2, easily reached by train and buses from Wimbledon, Clapham, Epson, Banstead. Sessions are weekly and last 50 minutes.

I am an accredited member of the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) and I adhere to its ethical framework.

To discuss your situation, or set up an initial appointment, you are welcome to contact me by email sonia@youinmindcounselling.co.uk or leave a message on 07784851587.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
