About me
Hi I’m Shaun, I am an experienced person-centred counsellor and will provide you with a safe and secure space in which to explore what is important to you. I have worked with Mind and The NHS with a range of adult clients with a variety of issues including depression, anxiety and the obsessive compulsive disorders. I have also worked with people experiencing grief from bereavement, and relationship and life issues. I can offer a setting that is genuinely non-judgmental and understanding where the space will be yours to use as you wish. I will support you on the basis of my training, and personal experience of being diagnosed with a mental health condition. I aim to integrate my recovery journey through NHS tertiary care settings to ground the way that I live and work. I can accommodate goals and tasks in counselling - if you prefer something that is a little more structured, I will be able to work with you to clarify and work toward your aims.
Training, qualifications & experience
- I have an FdSc in person-centred counselling and am currently completing a BSc in the same subject.
- Trained at level three in psychodynamic counselling.
- I am a qualified Peer Support worker.
- I am fully Cruse Bereavement trained.
- I have been involved with the adult national and specialist service for OCD/BDD at South West London & St George’s since 2015. Here I design and facilitate recovery groups for inpatient service users.
- Worked for West Sussex Mind as a Mental Health Worker in the crisis prevention team.
- I am group facilitator of Brighton’s OCD, BDD and Hoarding Disorder support group - since 2014.
- I have spoken publicly on my lived experience with mental health in the media and in organisational settings.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
