About me
It’s important that the environment you step into feels safe in order for you to explore issues or difficulties which can often be sensitive or private. My calm, warm, welcoming approach helps to create such an environment and will put you at ease before therapy commences.
As a fully qualified, experienced Counsellor with many years working within many services including the NHS. I have extensive knowledge helping those who have been affected by trauma, sexual violence, anxiety, and stress. My knowledge isn't limited to those categories as I have a number of years’ of experience working with people with a vast range of difficulties, and from varying backgrounds. My core approach is person centred but I also draw from other approaches if there is a benefit.
We all suffer from certain amounts of stress throughout our lives. Most of the time we find ways of coping and are able to bounce back. But sometimes that level of stress or the cumulative build-up of stress is too much and can leave us feeling overwhelmed. One of the best ways we can start to move forward is by talking. This can help us to identify different ways of coping, and what needs to start to change.
I work with acute stress and trauma, including sexual violence. Trauma affects us all so very differently. I can help you to understand the impact this is having, why you might be suffering from uncomfortable symptoms and techniques to help you manage/reduce them. I am also trained to provide pre-trial therapy in line with CPS guidelines.
I offer a free, initial, 20 minute introductory, no obligation telephone call. It's important that you feel at ease and this session also gives me the opportunity to explain a little about how I work.
Training, qualifications & experience
Experience and work:
St. Mary's SARC (Sexual Assault Referral Centre) - Supporting victims/survivors of sexual violence. This also includes providing pre-trial therapy in line with CPS guidelines.
SafeHaven Trauma Centre - Providing immediate support to those affected by traumatic events.
Trafford Bereavement and Palliative Care Service – Counselling individuals suffering from bereavement, loss or coming to terms with a terminal prognosis.
Employee Assistance Program – Counselling workplace staff with a wide range of issues, particularly the impact of workplace stress and trauma.
Working privately taking referrals for CISM (Critical Incident Stress Management) – attending organisations in the aftermath of traumatic incidents.
My initial qualifications in counselling provided me with an Advanced Level 5 Professional Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling.
Continued training courses include:
Rewind. Counselling for Bereavement and Loss, Group Crisis Intervention, Assisting Individuals in crisis. Managing Critical Incidents in Work and an Advanced certificate in Safeguarding for Children.
Workshops have included:
Suicide intervention, mindfulness, working with photographs, working using metaphors, introduction to psycho-pharmacology, personality disorders and other mental health conditions.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
