About me

Okay so how do I work?
I provide a safe confidential space whether that is in my room, online, or over the phone. A space where you can feel at ease to be yourself, have no fear of judgement, talk openly, swear, be able to express yourself in words, metaphors, images, drawing or music. I do have art paper, pens, small musical instruments and behavioural, role and archetype cards. You can also bring in items, art supplies to aid in your sessions.

Like I said I provide a safe space for you and with a calm, natural, relaxed way about me it solidifies that. Though I do like to challenge you when it is appropriate, so for example you may see a certain event from your past or behaviour you have in one way and one way only because you are you, I can help you shine a light on a different viewpoint, uncover it and make it open to you.

Honesty, congruence, genuineness, however you want to call it I believe is vital to counselling work and therefore will be completely genuine with you. So if something comes into my head as we are discussing I will bring that into the room, of course only if it's appropriate and I felt that you would be okay with it. I understand that what I have just said could be scary, but it is something that builds up between us alongside the working relationship.

You are the focus and the concern of the sessions, your safety and interest always come first.

I trained as an Integrative counsellor, meaning I have experience and practice with a number of counselling theories and approaches. I would say that my natural approach is a Person Centred one, the way I am. Though I like Gestalt theory as it focuses on the present, that doesn't mean we will not look at you past, but how that past is affecting you today. I will use tools and ideas from other theories too, what I feel will be beneficial to you at that time or moment.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
