About me

Hi, thank you for looking at my profile. It’s a daunting process, scrolling through pages of counsellors and trying to find the one that fits you and what you need right now. I have been there myself in the past, so I have some understanding.

I have a passion for discovering what lies beneath our day to day struggles and a desire to listen to what our inner child is telling us. If you want to know yourself better and release the potential you surely have to create a healthier and happier life, please get in touch and we can begin that journey together.

I have 26 years experience of working in the charitable sector with people who experience mental distress. I have worked in one to one settings with those experiencing anxiety, depression and Psychosis, providing practical as well as emotional support.

I am an Integrative therapist, which means I understand that 'one size therapy does not fit all' and therefore I will tailor my approach to suit individual need.

I can work with the here and now - what is currently going on for you and I will also work with your past and explore its influence on your 'today'.

Together we will explore some of your earliest childhood memories and emotions and seek parallels with your experiences of life today. We will trace the source of strong emotions in your present that will always resonate from an earlier time. Sometimes, really strong and overwhelming feelings are exact replays of the emotions we felt as a vulnerable and frightened child, and without the help of therapy, we can experience them as though we were still that child. Counselling helps us to access the resources we have as an adult to calm the clamour of that frightened child within us. We learn tools and techniques that can transform our ability to cope and that removes us from self-defeating patterns of behaviour that have harmed us and our relationships in the past.

I firmly believe that counselling offers hope. It offers the ability to change. It shows us that we can free ourselves from the impact of negative childhood experiences or negative messages that we absorbed and thought of as truths. It allows us the opportunity to create new and positive truths about ourselves that can open doors to better relationships, career prospects and happiness.

Counselling throws a spotlight on how we relate to those around us. Do you notice that some of your relationships seem to go round and round in an unhealthy and never ending dynamic of drama and upset? Do you feel pulled between resentment and guilt?

Do you feel that no matter what you do, nothing ever changes, or that good things happen only to other people? Do you have firm beliefs about your lot in life, or are you restricted by what you ‘should’ and ‘shouldn’t’ do.

If any of this resonates with you, then please get in contact.

I also have a special interest in LGBTQ issues, both from the perspective of someone exploring their own sexuality/gender identity to the family and their struggle to come to terms with their own feelings and responses to a loved one coming out.

I also have a special interest in childhood trauma either from suicide, alcoholism, mental ill-health in a parent or bullying.

Perhaps you’re experiencing loss or sadness, are having struggles at work, in your personal life, or in your relationships. Maybe you have difficult situations from your past that get in the way of your happiness in the present. You have experienced trauma or abuse, feel shame, anxiety, or depression. Whatever has brought you to this point, you have found the strength to seek help and that is your first step to taking back control and beginning your personal journey towards healing. A safe space matters to us all, especially at times of turmoil and pain, and that is what you will find here when you need it the most.

It is my belief that everyone has the capacity to think and to change, and that we can look to our early years and relationships for clues as to the difficulties we experience in our present. I believe we can acquire tools, techniques, and strategies through counselling that we can carry with us in our future. We all have the capacity to change outdated and unhelpful behaviours and learn how to interact with our world from a healthy ‘Adult’ state. We can learn to identify unhelpful ways of communicating, thinking, and feeling and make positive lifelong changes that lead to inner fulfilment and higher self-esteem.

If you are feeling overwhelmed, confused, stuck or in pain, if life is harder than it used to be, or your tried and tested methods aren't working for you anymore, you may benefit from talking to someone outside your usual circle. Counselling is investing in your self. It is an act of self care that will reap very personal and powerful rewards.

I also have a deep appreciation for the connection many of us have with animals and understand that grief at the loss of a beloved pet, no matter what type of animal, can be felt as hugely and keenly as any bereavement. I offer a safe space for this type of loss and appreciate that not everyone gets the impact of the loss of an animal that is also our family.

I provide counselling in a welcoming and safe environment where you can be assured of an approach without judgement. You can be confident that anything you disclose will be confidential. I am bound by the ethical framework of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society and attend regular Supervision to oversee my work. I keep my training and expertise up to date by undertaking regular Continuous Professional Development courses.
