When you come to therapy with me we will start on a process of discovery... of who you really are and how you tick. We will explore situations as they happen to you and identify patterns of behaviour and areas where you might choose to make changes. Very small changes can have long term effects - like the ripples on water.
Experience in life has shown me that we are often influenced by subtle, unspoken, unconscious impressions from the past. You may be very puzzled as to how you get into certain situations again and again. Together we can uncover these conundrums and understand what is really going on.
My focus is on working with people who want to improve the quality of their life and of their relationships. Whatever it is that you need to resolve - be it depression, anxiety, bereavement, anger management, loss, anxiety or anything else - I would like to help you to achieve a more satisfying, contented life and feel more alive and vital.
The aim of my work with clients is to support them in reconnecting, strengthening and healing themselves.
I enjoy being able to pass on this knowledge, and these techniques of understanding. For me this is a lifelong journey, I am constantly learning about myself and others and gaining new insight. I find the process interesting and deeply rewarding.
It might take you a relatively short time to find your direction and bring resolution to your problems, or you may prefer to take longer with the process of discovery.
I use Transactional Analysis psychotherapy because it is clear, easy to understand and a useful 'language' that we can use for identifying what is really going on! However it also has huge depth and can help to explain deep seated beliefs and impressions and enable us to stretch to a new way of being.
The philosophy of Transactional Analysis psychotherapy:
People are OK
Everyone has the capacity to think
People decide their own destiny, and these decisions can be changed
Training, qualifications & experience
I have a lifelong fascination with people and how they operate. I have a natural ability to communicate with people which I have used to good effect in the therapy world as well as previously in the IT training world.
People tell me that I do not judge and I know that one of my strengths is openness to difference and diversity. I strongly believe in honesty and friendliness.
My motto is 'Live and Let Live'
A requirement of my professional training was that I undertook four years of personal psychotherapy myself. I have confronted and explored my ways of relating to myself and to others. This has given me increased self awareness and insight, and a deep understanding of what it is like to be in the client's chair.
Training in brief:-
4 years Advanced Training in Clinical Psychotherapy at Manchester Institute for Psychotherapy (MiP) culminating in a Diploma in Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy.
Working towards the next qualification - to be a Certified Transactional Analyst - which is the equivalent of an Msc.
12 months voluntary work as a psychotherapist at a Low Cost Clinic.
I provide a private practice offering counselling and psychotherapy - which has been operating since 2009.
Previously, from 1985 until 2012, I worked in the IT industry, I established a successful company offering IT training & consultancy in 1995 which employed 5 staff.
I have regular supervision with an experienced and qualified supervisor. I undergo regular personal psychotherapy which enables me to clear any of my own issues that might otherwise negatively influence my work.
I continually attend to my learning and enjoy attending conferences and workshops.
