About me

Hi there,

Thank you for taking the time to look at my page. Whether or not this sounds right for you, please know I am glad you were here.

I'm Rosie and I work alongside my small but mighty team of Therapy Animals at PAWS for Thought Counselling. I am based on a working farm on the outskirts of Exmoor National Park, offering both Counselling & Animal Assisted Therapy for Adults and Young People on a 1:1 basis.

Through my own experience of attending Counselling, I personally know how challenging it can be to sit down and talk to someone face to face. So if this has been the case for you, I really do hear you. This is why I offer a service that meets the needs of those who share this struggle, making use of the picturesque countryside and all it has to offer.

Despite the name, PAWS for Thought Counselling is not all about animals. Anyone is welcome here for Counselling, this space is made to suit you.

Counselling & working outdoors

Counselling sessions can be held inside in a calm and private space, or out in the fields with a cup of tea, surrounded by fresh country air and grazing farm animals. When the nights draw in and the weather is cooler, we can light the fire pit to keep us warm.

I also offer walk & talk sessions. We will start here on the farm, allowing us time to get to know one and other. When we both feel comfortable, we can venture out and enjoy some lovely local walks.

Online sessions are perfect for those who have busy work/life schedules, where finding time to come to Counselling may be unmanageable. Online sessions make Counselling more accessible and can be done from the comfort of your own home.

Animal Assisted Therapy

My Therapy team includes:

Rolo -  5 year old working Cocker Spaniel who thrives off attention. Rolo is deaf, so requires alternative ways of communication. This can help create a deeper, meaningful connection with people he meets. Rolo enjoys tricks, training and anything that involves food. In his spare time he enjoys running on the beach and competing in Heelwork to Music. Rolo is a Certified Therapy Dog through PAWS.

Tyson - Mule x Dorset wether lamb. After being rejected at birth, Tyson was bottle fed which made him very tame. He is extremely confident and will happily come and greet you for a fuss. He is currently being clicker trained, which is great for getting hands on interaction and having a go at training, helping to build connection.

Betty - Dorset Ewe lamb. Betty is more timid of the two, so can be wary at times. She is very friendly and enjoys interacting with people once she gets to know them. Due to sheep being a flock animal, the sheep will always work together.

We can also head out to the hen house to look for eggs, feeding the chickens and putting together some enrichment activities for them to enjoy. We also have some pigs here on the farm who will love to be fed.

During lambing, there may be some tame lambs to bottle feed, a great chance to get up close and interact with the animals.

What happens next?

Considering or committing to therapy can be a huge step, one which should be recognised and supported. I believe finding the right counsellor is important and a process that shouldn't be rushed. This decision is and always should be yours to make.

Each person seeking counselling will be looking for something different, so having a chat beforehand can be beneficial. I will be open and honest about what I offer and there is no obligation to continue afterwards.

I offer a FREE 15 minute phone consultation session to see if what I offer is right for you. For animal Assisted Therapy a 30 minute face to face consultation is also required to ensure compatibility. More details about each of these services can be found on my website. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
