About me

Welcome to my profile

I'm Rob. My clients find therapy gives them a place to let go and be themselves. Therapy can be laid back and approachable - in fact, so much more seems possible when it is. It can be so liberating to truly be yourself. That means not worrying how you appear, if you'll offend someone, or if you'll be judged. Those things take so much effort. Here you can go for it! Say what you like, see what happens, let it all out. I promise I won't judge you. You deserve to be heard and understood from your point of view. If you didn't have enough of that in your life, here's a chance to make up for it.

My main aims are that therapy:

  1. gives you relief quickly
  2. is achievable and gives hope
  3. gives you a deep understanding
  4. rebalances overwhelming emotions
  5. makes you feel truly heard
  6. works to your strengths to build confidence in your own capabilities.

There is no issue too big or too small - you deserve to get the relief you need.

Choosing a therapist

I know how tricky it is to choose a therapist, with thoughts like 'what if we don't click?' or 'I hope they understand me'. It feels like a leap of faith to choose a therapist without meeting them. An initial consultation gives you the opportunity to meet me and tell me what you are going through. It's a quick chat - most people find it gives them hope too.

Specialisms

I get good results with most issues. However, there are certain areas that I work particularly well with - Low self-esteem and Adverse (or traumatic) Childhood Experiences. My approach is gentle and caring, working to your strengths, and giving hope and encouragement to face challenges. You deserve to get what you missed out on - someone calm and dependable who truly cares about you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Personal Bio

I have two sons and love being their father. Fatherhood has had a profound impact on my therapy practice, giving insight into the role of a parent, and the importance of having an attuned, caring role model at some point in your life.

I lived in Australia and New Zealand for 4 years and have travelled quite widely in other countries. I love the scary but exciting feeling of exploring something unknown - I recognise this feeling in therapy as it usually leads to change.

I am a musician and enjoy painting. Creativity is a huge part of who I am, and I love working to bring out others' creativity. I have a special interest in a creative block, performance anxiety, and the creative process.

I lived for a long time with low self-esteem and anxiety and thought that’s just how life is. When I began to see that life could be different, I got a sudden boost of motivation and hope and was amazed to see what life could be like. I knew at that point that I wanted to become a therapist, so others can discover that change is possible.
