About me

Hello.  Life is not always easy.  Perhaps relationships are a struggle, or work is stressful, or things don't feel good.  Maybe you are experiencing anxiety or depression or the effects of trauma.  Many people have found the last couple of years particularly challenging.  Perhaps you are looking to have a more satisfying life and to realise your potential.

We all have times when we need support.  My aim as a therapist is to help you to get from where you are now to where you would like to be, to assist you to find a way to a better place.  You can share your concerns and challenges with me, I will be with you in your difficulties, you need not be alone.  I will use my skills and experience to guide you and to assist you to heal and to grow.

I offer a safe and confidential space where you can say whatever is on your mind.  It can be really helpful to be properly listened to and to express your concerns without being judged.  I will help you to feel understood.  We can work together to untangle your thoughts and feelings, and address what may be troubling you.  We can increase your self awareness, and improve how you cope, and help you to be confident in your capabilities.  Life may seem overwhelming but change is possible.

About me and my approach

I am an experienced integrative psychotherapist and counsellor.  Integrative means that I use different types of therapy and approaches as best suited to you and your needs.  How therapy works varies a great deal, and your course of therapy will be unique to you.

I believe the therapeutic relationship between the client and the therapist is key, as that enables us to talk and to work together.  I aim to create a warm, welcoming and nurturing atmosphere to help you feel comfortable and able to talk freely.  Also many issues have their root in relationships, and experiencing a supportive and caring relationship can make a lot of difference.

I make use of Attachment theory, which describes how we relate to each other.  I am influenced by Gestalt therapy with an emphasis on the connections between people, and experiences at the present moment, and on trying out new ways of being.  I am also influenced by Psychodynamic therapy which considers how past learning and experiences influence our relationships and behaviour today.

Therapy typically involves a dialogue between you and me.  It is up to you what you choose to bring.  We will discuss your thoughts and feelings and I will offer as appropriate different perspectives and guidance.  My approach is to help you to find the answers that are best for you.  I seek to provide an environment in which you can change and grow.

As a person I am warm and approachable, and try to put myself in the other persons shoes.  One reason I became a therapist is because, in a volunteer role, I really liked listening to people and their concerns.  Before becoming a therapist I worked in business and learned many life lessons through facing my own challenges and difficulties, I have an appreciation of how difficult things can be.

Who are my clients?

The answer is people like you and me!  I am pleased to offer therapy to a variety of clients, of different ages, genders, sexuality, backgrounds, ethnicity and beliefs, and who have a range of different issues they wish to focus on.

What next

You may be unsure about whether therapy is for you.  Or perhaps you are looking for the right therapist and would like to find our more about me.  Why not speak to me on the phone, I offer a free no commitment chat?  Or you can message or email me.  I realise that reaching out can be difficult, and will respond to your questions and concerns and help you to feel at ease.

If you then want to continue further we would set up a meeting.  This gives an opportunity to talk more about your concerns and what you might hope for from therapy.  You will be able to see if I am the right person for you and whether the kind of therapy I offer suits you.  There is no obligation to continue.

If we decide to work together then usually we would meet for a 50 minute session at a regular time each week.  If that is not possible then I may be able to offer a more flexible arrangement.

Therapies I offer

I offer therapy face-to-face and on-line by video.  Many clients find on-line works well for them.  I am happy to discuss these alternative approaches.

I also offer face to face therapy outdoors,  although this is dependent upon the weather and finding a suitable place to meet.  It works well with a fall back of on-line therapy.

More Information

Do you want to find out more?  Then you can phone or email or message me.  Or my website (link on this page) gives more of an idea of what you can expect from me and also has information about therapy and what it might mean for you.
