About me

I am a qualified Gestalt counsellor, based in the Forest of Dean / Wye Valley and in Chepstow.

On Mondays and Tuesday mornings, I invite clients to my home in English Bicknor, near Coleford and Monmouth, where the counselling room is set up in a way that adheres to Covid-19 regulations. It is a safe and quiet space where a client can be themself, with no judgement.  On Tuesday afternoons, I work in Chepstow as part of the Chepstow Therapy Rooms, where clients are also welcome.

I work on Mondays and Tuesdays only.

Zoom sessions are also welcomed, if you prefer.

If you are new to counselling, I can offer just an initial phone call so you can see what you think, or you can email me just to say hello and take it from there.  I know it can feel daunting to take the first step.

it seems to me that the most important element in any client / counsellor relationship is the quality of that relationship and trust. I offer you a safe and confidential place where you can be really listened to and fully supported.

My Gestalt background means that I can offer a focus on supporting clients to grow awareness of the here and now, and with the foundation of our trusting relationship, offer the opportunity to experiment with doing things differently.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am qualified with a Diploma in Gestalt Counselling from the Gestalt Centre in London and am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.  I have worked with clients who have experienced issues with anxiety, stress, and depression. I have worked with clients from various diverse backgrounds and with a range of issues.

I have 30 years experience working in the NHS, both as a speech and language therapist and then as a service leader and coach, supporting staff in developing their potential.

I have three grown up sons who live in London and Manchester, and a husband and 2 dogs who live with me in the beauty of the Forest of Dean.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Additional information

You are welcome to email or call to say hello and arrange a first session, where we can talk about what it is you are looking for. This would be a 'taster' session after which you can decide if you want to continue. I offer sessions for as long as the client feels they need them, and usually agree to review how things are going at around week 6.

All sessions are 50 minutes long and I charge £40 per session. This can be paid in cash at the session or by BACS transfer. I have returned to face to face work, although zoom is still an option for those who prefer
