About me

Hi, I’m Rachael. I’m an integrative counsellor, offering a warm and safe environment to explore issues or difficulties that may be troubling you. I believe that we all have an innate capacity to grow and change given the right support, tools and self-understanding. Working with a relational focus, I will accompany you to explore your life story and relationships to gain greater self-awareness and acceptance. My aim will be for us to build a trusting alliance to enable us to work collaboratively, allowing you to discover and experiment with new ways of being and relating.

I have experience in supporting clients with a range of emotional and psychological needs and I have a particular interest in relationships, parenting, family dynamics, life transitions/change, depression, anxiety and self-esteem. I aim to provide a supportive, non-judgemental and confidential environment by offering both short and long-term counselling in person in Bristol, or online. Short term counselling will enable us to focus on the more immediate issues you are experiencing in the present, whilst longer term work will allow us to explore how your past experiences may be affecting your current difficulties. My intention is to help you feel safe and empowered to embrace change, achieve your personal goals and gain a greater sense of well-being.

As an integrative counsellor, I tailor my approach according to each of my client’s specific concerns and needs, utilising a variety of approaches. The foundation to my work is ‘person-centred’ which supports my belief that you are the expert on yourself. My role is not about directing you but providing a safe, explorative environment to allow you to make sense of things, at a pace that works for you. My experience is that clients find this both effective and empowering.

I believe that a good therapeutic relationship is key to healing, which is why I offer a free initial consultation so that you can be sure that I am the right therapist for you. Please contact me if you would like further details or if you would like to arrange a fifteen minute introductory phone call.

Training, qualifications & experience

My training is in person-centred counselling and I am fully committed to an on-going programme of professional development in order that I keep developing my skills. Following a number of years of training and gaining agency experience, I was awarded a distinction for my Foundation Degree in integrative counselling with the University of Plymouth and I am currently working towards a post-qualifying certificate in Relationship Therapy, which will enable me to work with couples in the future.

My qualifications enable me to work with a variety of therapeutic approaches, including, humanistic, integrative, psychodynamic, attachment, relational, systemic, transactional analysis, creative therapy and mindfulness.

I have worked in a number of counselling roles and specific areas of client work have included peri-natal mental health, parenting, life transitions, menopause, anxiety and depression, and grief and loss.

As a fully qualified counsellor, I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and abide by their code of ethics. I receive regular supervision in line with their requirements.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
