About me

Hi, my name's Penny and I'm a counsellor and CBT therapist.  If this is your first time accessing counselling thank you for looking at my profile.  Please email me if you have any questions or if you would like more information.

My approach to therapy is to find out what your needs and expectations are. Then together we can use our time to support you best whether it’s working towards specific goals, focusing on specific difficulties or simply having a place to talk freely without judgement.

I work specifically with a CBT approach which looks at our thoughts (cognitive) and behaviours and the effect they have on each other.  The emphasis on behavioural or cognitive approaches will depend on the issue you are facing. For example, if you are suffering from anxiety or depression, the focus may be on the cognitive approach.

The course of CBT can be anywhere from six weeks to six months, depending on your circumstances. Usually, you will attend one session a week, with each session lasting from 50 minutes to an hour.  However, this is purely for guidance and sessions will be adapted to each clients individual needs.

I am credentialed in the UK with 4 years of professional work experience. I have experience in helping clients with stress and anxiety, motivation, self esteem, and confidence, & depression. I work with my clients to create an open and safe environment where thoughts and feelings can be shared without fear of judgment. It takes courage to seek out a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. I am here to support & empower you in that journey.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
