About me

Finding the right counsellor can be difficult and might cause some anxiety, particularly if it’s the first time you’ve done it. I can tell you that I am a compassionate, empathic and open-minded person, that I have a flexible, calm and curious attitude, but I know that us talking to each other will be the best way for you to tell whether you want to spend any more time with me. I offer a free 30-minute initial consultation – in person or online – to see if you think we’re a good match.

What to expect

My counselling room is at the bottom of my garden in Marden, Kent, and it has a private entrance. It’s a safe, comfortable and welcoming space where you can rest assured of your confidentiality. I am also trained in telephone and online counselling, so if you’re not local or you would prefer it that way, we can arrange our sessions remotely.

My main aim is to encourage a relationship to form between us that is above all warm, trusting and non-judgemental, to enable you to focus on your feelings, develop your self-awareness and perhaps see things from a different perspective. You are at the centre of everything we do, and the sessions are always led by what you want to talk about.

Through our relationship, I will be there to help you explore your life, untangle your thoughts and address your feelings to achieve a deeper understanding of who you are. Through reflection and kind, gentle challenge, we will find new perspectives to even things out and look to bring about positive change.

Training, qualifications & experience

I’m a fully qualified integrative counsellor, which means that I’m trained to support you by using a variety of approaches that best suit your needs. I believe this works well because your needs may well change over time, and I can be flexible enough to respond to those needs appropriately and tailor my approach to suit you best. I’m transparent about how I work and I try to communicate as clearly as possible, as I’m very conscious of what an impact language can have. The main approaches I use are person-centred, existential and psychodynamic.

I hold a Diploma in Integrative Counselling, a Certificate in Psychodynamic Counselling, a Postgraduate Diploma in Coaching Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Social Science – qualifications I have gained in the UK, Finland and Germany.

Alongside my private practice, I am a counsellor at a local community counselling service, which supports clients in the local community through longer-term psychotherapeutic relationships. I also volunteer as a counsellor for patients and their families at a local hospice, so I have lots of experience of working with grief, bereavement and loss.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
