About me

I appreciate that finding and approaching a therapist for the first time can feel like a daunting experience. Whatever the reason you are considering therapy, please feel free to contact me and we can arrange an initial call to discuss the issues you are seeking help with.

My approach

I am fully qualified psychodynamic psychotherapist registered with the British Psychoanalytic Council, UK Council for Psychotherapy and Foundation for Psychotherapy and Counselling.

By talking about whatever is troubling you, I believe psychodynamic therapy can help you reach a greater understanding of yourself and the issues you are currently facing. Understanding can bring opportunities for change and improvement in your quality of life, relationships and general wellbeing.

I work with a range of different issues but my work is always tailored to the individual as I believe each of us is a unique combination of our own thoughts, feelings, formative relationships and life experiences.

With that in mind, I usually work to an open-ended arrangement so the individual has the time they need to explore issues without the restrictions and pressures of working within a specific timescale.

Where it is clear that you would like to focus on a specific issue, I can also offer time-limited therapy where we would meet for a pre-agreed number of sessions.

Getting started

Please contact me to arrange an initial call of around 10 minutes where we could discuss the issues you are seeking help.

Following that, I would usually suggest an initial appointment of up to 90 minutes. This is longer than a regular therapy session so that we have enough time to discuss what has brought you to therapy, get a broader understanding of your life and experiences to date and discuss what you would like to get from the sessions. The initial appointment also gives you the chance to experience what a therapy session with me would be like.

After the initial session, if we decide to meet on a regular basis, we would agree a mutually convenient day and time and meet at the same time each week for sessions of 50 minutes.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BPC
British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC)

The British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) is a professional association, representing the profession of psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

The organisation is itself made up of fourteen member organisations and BPC accredits the trainings of its member organisations. An individual who qualifies from one of these trainings is then eligible for entry into the BPC's register.

BPC registrants are governed by a code of ethics, a policy of continuing professional development, a statement on confidentiality and a complaints procedure. The BPC is a Member Society of the European Federation for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy in the Public Sector (EFPP). Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
