About me

Due to my own personal journey, I am particularly interested in working with people who:

  • Have found themselves raising children alone and struggle with their mental health or identity as a result of this.
  • Have experienced/are experiencing sibling rivalry or family conflict.
  • Feel like the black sheep of the family - like you are the scapegoat for all family problems.
  • Have felt ostracised by family members for saying how you feel, or for calling out bad behaviour.

Why do people come to counselling?

I also welcome enquiries from anyone looking for a neutral listening ear; different to that of friends and family members.

You might come to counselling if you've experienced a significant event in your life, that has left you feeling in shock, or with a painful sense of loss that feels all-consuming.

It could be that you are feeling stuck in self-destructive patterns and would like help in moving forward in a way that better serves you. Perhaps you have a tendency to keep things to yourself, as friends and family don't seem to understand.

How does counselling help?

Together we will explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences, exactly as they are. We will work collaboratively towards your goals, making things feel more manageable; as when we feel truly understood it often provides us with a new found sense of clarity and confidence.

New to counselling?

If this is your first experience of counselling it is likely to feel a little scary. However, I would like to reassure you that there is no right or wrong way to do counselling, and you will never be wasting my time. Your instincts will guide you along the process and I will be there to help you if you're not sure where to start. Often taking the first step is the hardest (and most courageous!) but we will be in it together.

''The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.'' Carl Rogers

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

About our sessions

Our sessions will be 50 minutes long and will take place at my counselling room, situated in an easily accessible, but discreet location in Eaton Socon, St Neots - with free on-site parking. Alternatively, I can offer Zoom/telephone counselling if you prefer.

Typically sessions will be on a weekly basis, but I also have some availability for fortnightly sessions if this works better for you. I can offer some time-limited concessions at £40 per session, which is to be reviewed after 6 sessions, with regard to any changes in personal circumstances.

Ready to make an enquiry?

Making first contact can feel really nerve-wracking, which is completely normal. Be reassured, my first priority will be to put you at ease.

By phoning, texting or emailing me (whichever you prefer) we can arrange an appointment for a free 20 minute phone consultation. This is to discuss your counselling needs, and to give you the opportunity to see if I'm the right fit for you. I really look forward to hearing from you.
