About me
Hello, I am Melissa and I offer holistic counselling from a private room on the edge of the Peak District National Park in Marsden or we can connect online, on the phone or outside in nature. My practice is based on the values of kindness, safety, integrity, co-creation and holism. I believe that when we feel safe and held in relationship we feel safe to listen to our felt-sense and intuition to source meaning, growth and fulfilment in our lives.
I offer a confidential client-led space where we can weave together traditional talking therapies with somatic and creative approaches such as clay work, poetry, mark-making, vision quests, breathwork, Indian head massage and reiki. I can support you to connect to your process at a pace and depth that feels right for you. Traditionally counselling and psychotherapy has focused on the cognitive mind and the innate wisdom of the body was lost. Somatic and creative therapies draw upon this wisdom and can help us to connect to and express our inner world in different ways. You do not need to have any artistic ability - this is about your self-expression.
I am committed to co-creating a relationship and space where you feel safe to explore your needs and self-expression. The therapeutic approaches that most inform my work are person-centred, existential, and transpersonal. I am a non-pathologising, holistic and trauma aware practitioner who honours your journey and your wisdom. I work holistically with the body, mind and spirit.

Training, qualifications & experience
I am a registered, insured and qualified Counsellor & Psychotherapist. I have further training in trauma informed care, psychoeducation, yoga, shamanism, Indian head massage, breathwork and reiki. I have over 12 years experience of working alongside others on their healing journey as a Social Worker, Mental Health Advocate and Counsellor.

UKAHPP is a national accrediting organisation for all those who apply the theories of Humanistic Psychology in their work. The UKAHPP is an independent member organisation of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and the UK Register of Counsellors.
The Association is made up of a number of different membership classes e.g. Associate Members, Affiliate Members, Full Members, each with different requirements for entry. Full Members may use the initials 'MAHPP' after their names, and have undergone a rigorous accreditation procedure relevant to their discipline.
All members of the Association of Humanistic Psychology Practitioners must commit to acceptance of the UKAHPP Code of Ethical Principles, the UKAHPP Code of Practice, the UKAHPP Ethical Review Procedure and the UKAHPP Complaints Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
